First lady treats husband to rib and roast

WASHINGTON (AP) -- First lady Laura Bush stole the show with a surprise comedy routine that ripped President Bush and brought an audience that included much of official Washington and a dash of Hollywood to a standing ovation at a dinner honoring award-winning journalists.

The president began a speech late Saturday at the 91st annual White House Correspondents' Association dinner, but was quickly "interrupted" by his wife in an obviously planned ploy.

"Not that old joke, not again," she said to the delight of the audience. "I've been attending these dinners for years and just quietly sitting there. I've got a few things I want to say for a change."

Heres my favorite farmer joke. Two farmers wives are out in the field harvesting potatoes. One wife says to the other 'hey these taters look just like Jakes nuts.'The other lady was impressed. She said 'his nuts are that big?' 'No' says the other woman 'they are that dirty'.

Lighten up.

"My son & his girlfriend rented the video a little while back...........apparently there is a rock video or something that has a line that says something like "We both liked "Breakfast At Tiffany's"............have no idea who or what it is........anyway........."

Deep Blue Something. Great tune.

Sounds like your Dad is enjoying himself more. Good to hear it.

"Have you seen this man?"

Outstanding! I hope that you realize that those on this thread you intended to lampoon probably never heard of Ned Flanders and have no clue as to your post.

Anyways, I appreciated it!

Yes, he is. He actually lightened up a lot after the five of us left the house to be on our own!

Mom passed away about 3-1/2 years ago, and dad remarried last year, to a really wonderful lady. She and dad and mom went to the same church together and knew each other for a little over 10 years.

Unfortunately, dad is sick with cancer, and probably will not be with us too much longer.

It's been so fun to share the funny memories with everyone on this thread.

And these events really were never traditionally for broadcast TV.

Exactly.

And from what I've been told by folks that attended the Correspondent's dinner in years past things have been tamed immensely because of the broadcast.

Some people just don't understand.

I've attended many of these type functions over the years - you do not belong there if you are the least offended by the slightest of off-color joke. Most folks who know me consider me to be an upstanding citizen, a conservative and a good wife and mother and I always loved those functions.

While my immediate reaction to first seeing your screen name was "Breakfast at Tiffany's" I do appreciate you having given a full explanation.

I sympathize with you about feeling the need to explain it, I can't tell you how many weird things have been said about mine over the years.......including hiding behind a made up name which always makes me laugh considering I have been known as Gabz for over 40 years.

I haven't seen it in a while, I think I'll rent breakfast at Tiffany's this weekend!

I was hoping for a reply indicating that or perhaps a "I don't watch cartoons because the whole concept of a talking dog is blasphemous" type response.

I don't think he/she even realizes that I was laughing at myself in the explanation. Yes folks, Holly sometimes does stupid things & feels no need to hide it from the world. I prolly shouldn't have added the little dig at the end, but I am incorrigable.

Now that you've splained your handle, I think I would enjoy doing coffee with you, though you might have to fight me to get in a word edgewise.

Enjoy the flick!

LOLOL!!

Love every minute. My mom went home to heaven 2.5 years ago. 2.5 years is a lot of memories that never happened.

So sorry to hear about your Mom's death and your Dad's cancer. Sounds like he's making the most of his remaining time and, hopefully, you and the family are making the most of your time with him.

Thanks so much, and yes, we are. It's often pretty hard for me to get time off work as we're short-handed, but I've snagged three days off next week for a 5-day visit!

He's still able to get around fairly well, and even occasionally golf, which he loves, but has days when he's pretty sick from the chemo. As with my mom and her treatments, it's hard to see them go through it, but we definitely make the most of our time together.

I know quite a few "first class ladies," but I can't imagine one of them making a Chippendales joke. This was first class pandering to the gutter ethics of the national press corps.

My wife is a first class lady, and she took it in good humor. Just because we're conservative, doesn't that mean we, (including Laura Bush) can't enjoy edgy humor. I am not prudish..and I don't think that the majority of Freepers are prudish either.
