Saw some of this on C-Span this morning.

Richard Gere?...

Did Rush attend?

How come we're not there?

I'd love to hear from the FReepers who were there to make sure but I didn't see or hear about very many conservatives being there. Ann Coulter for instance, wonder if she was there.

One of the media-types gave an audio interview complaining that dues paying members of the organization that sponsors this are not at all assured of receiving a ticket to attend because of all the celebrities who are invited.

Why are there Hollywood celebrities there? They don't even like President Bush.

That's exactly my thinking.

Now where did I put my invitation?

With Helen way down at the end of the head table, the President and VP don't have to look at her.

Can't blame them. They want to enjoy their dinner.

I thought Cedric was going to mention Hillary. Cause he was talking about a female Pres.

After he said that the country was ready for a female President, he should have turned to the First Couple and said, "Laura, you better get things going!"

That would have brought down the house.

sorry I had to miss this. I don't think that 10-year-olds should be exposed to the likes of Susie Benjawoman and Gael Murphy (I have my kids this wknd).

Just wanted to tell you that I flipped on Michael Savage radio show and he is SO UPSET at Laura's speech and the fact that Bush is catering to the "lowest common denominator" by having Cedric the Entertainer entertain!

He is getting a bunch of school teacher calling up and saying how appalled they are that the Bush's are representing our country this way!!!

yes, I heard that. and to be honest, to a certain segment of our voters (some of whom were calling in to Savage) - I can understand how they feel. That 74 year old evangelical grandmother doesn't understand this kind of humor, and I have to wonder why it is even ncessary for the president, and now the first lady, to engage in this event at all, and to give these kinds of presentations. do we need to be doing this?

What kind of humor are you saying a 74 year old evangelical wouldn't understand?

Puhllleeeze---my mother died in January--she was 74 and she would have understood every single line---

Was it the male horse joke? I bet every person over 40 has been to a farm or around horses, even MALE horses....

Was it Desperate Housewives? It is one of the most popular shows on TV--I haven't watched one episode and I bet Laura hasn't either---but it was TOPICAL joke....

Going to Chippendales----again, a joke that everyone over 15 knows about---do you think anyone thinks that Laura, Lynn, Karen and Condi would go, or that they would see Judge Ginsberg or Judge O'Connor....?

This was not a family affair, it wasn't on national TV at primetime---

Lighten up!

I don't have a problem with it personally. But I can see where some people, who vote republican, would. And I just don't see why we need to be doing this event. As I recall, last years speech was some flippant jokes about not finding WMD. what is the point of participating in this?

I'm sorry I misunderstood your first post---I apologize...

As far as why should the do the event, I guess because it is just part of what every president does, this is just a custom, and one thing we do know about George W. Bush is that he honors the office--which also means doing things he doesn't like, just to honor the status quo---

Personally, I laughed until I cried, and I kept thinking that if Hillary was watching, you could probably see steam coming out of her ears because Laura was getting laughs (from the enemy, so to speak) AND a standing ovation....

THAT part was just terrific, IMHO

"do we need to be doing this?"

NO! Not when it's just a pure unadulterated "suck up" to the vitriolic MSM who pump poison into America's political waters almost faster than the new media can pump in their antidote!!!

This is great sport in D.C., but Republicans are generally a little more concerned with "Family Values" and "Polite Company" no matter WHO's watching/listening at whatever time of day!!!

This is absolutely the DUMBEST way to "reachout" to "the (dis)loyal opposition!" It's Republicans reaching out for defeat inorder to snatchit from the jaws of victory! IMO!!!

Self depracating humor from the man himself, (like Reagan did) is one thing, but Nancy would NEVER have read lines like those last night to depracate Ronnie... NEVER!!! (and Ronnie's people would have invited some new media types to balance things out)

Republicans are generous to a fault in either victory or defeat! It's like they had zero ability to discern the difference. That audience wasn't laughing "with" the Bushes... They were laughing AT them!!!
