Report: Japan sex industry ensnares Latin women

LIMA, Peru (AP) -- At least 1,700 women from Latin America and the Caribbean are lured each year into sexual slavery in Japan's huge illicit sex industry, according to a new report.

A team of researchers hired by the Organization of American States found that most of the women come from Colombia, Bolivia, Brazil, Mexico and Peru.

The team of researchers -- led by Phillip Linderman, an expert on loan from the U.S. State Department -- presented the "Rapid Assessment Report" to an international seminar on human trafficking sponsored by Peru's Foreign Ministry on Friday.

The OAS analysis was culled from interviews with presumed victims, Japanese immigration records and crime data.

The 37-page report estimated tens of thousands of undocumented foreign women in Japan, mostly from other Asian countries, are exploited by crime organizations, like Yakuza, Japan's second-largest crime syndicate.

Japan's National Police Agency estimates the sex trade industry there to be worth $83 billion a year

Linderman said governments on both sides of the Pacific paid little attention to the problem until recently.

The Colombian Embassy in Japan stood out, aggressively working to identify and assist the estimated 4,000 Colombians it believes are human trafficking victims.

But Linderman said the figures in his report probably represent only a percentage of trafficking victims, particularly from other Latin American countries like Peru, which is just starting to tackle the issue.

"horror at what she had seen! A sick, sick country."

And what was it she saw? I spent 7.5 months there over a 10 year period and thought it was wonderful, though I felt sorry for the locals, very regimented society. It seems to me regimented societies blow off steam sexually so a flourishing sex trade doesn't surprise me, but human trafficing allegations do to some extent.

CC, Sushiman's right. You can get yourself all worked up over the negative aspects of Japan and really hate it (sexual perversions, drunken businessmen, smokers, revisionist historians, etc), or you can instead focus on the better aspects and have a really good time there (low crime, generally polite and helpful populace, convenience in the crowdedness, many things to eat see and do, etc).

Hmmm...I don't like summer humidity, high prices, or tobacco smoke, but other than that, I think it's fine. I live in Kita-Senjyu. I also don't like getting stared at. But I think Japan ROCKS; you hold a door open or give up your seat on the train for a woman, and she's really happy. I love Japan!

I wish I could own a gun, though. Just for fun...

Yah.....and the Fatherland would have none of that.

Of course, we could just choose to be led by a cult of perverts, who happen to hate Jews and delight in goose-stepping through bucolic French villages every few decades.............

Nonetheless, Germany is over there and we do have this hard won right to speak freely. So........

LOL. You're on real thin ice there, Hermann.

OH really!

1) Massacre of thousands of native peoples by US army in 1800's. Land/possesions of Indians stolen by US goverenment policy. Indians forced to move to gov mandated concentration camps where many live in squaler even today.

2) Blacks (men, women, children) kidnapped from their homes forced aboard ships, then bought/sold by US citizens 1700-1860's.

3) Laws prohibiting blacks/jews from buying/living in certain communities. Entire black communities burned out by whites, one in Florida and the other in Tulsa OK during the first part of the 20th century.

4) War of aggression (Spanish American War). Where the cause for war was the trumpted up sinking of the battleship Maine. Recent information says the explosion on the Maine might have have been an accident or worse, intentionally done to get the US public behind Washington's expansion dreams.

5) US murder toll of unborn children (abortion)- estmated at 42 million. This includes US gov sanctioned partial-birth abortion. Where a child is allow to come to full term, the child is brought thru the birth cannal, when it's head is exposed the executioner (DOCTOR) stabs the child in the base of the head and suctions the brain out.

6) Terri Schivo, gov mandated execution of citizen not guilty of any crime and what did YOU do to stop her death? If you were arrested trying to stop her death, my hat's off to you. However, if you did nothing, then you're no better that all those Germans during 1939-1945 saying, I didn't know!

7)As for perverts in the GOV, you've got to be kidding Thumper1960. Do I have to remind you of the serial RAPEST Bill Clinton. Then there's Barney Fwank, Ted Kennedy and on and on!

So, now YANKEE DOODLE it seems the ice is thin for both of our countries.

Don't take it personally. I watched German tv while in Europe and couldn't believe the commercials that were on late at night on regular tv. Plus it's no secret to anyone that some fat, middle aged Germans go to select asian countries for young nubile action. My sister saw lots of them in Thailand.

I always found it hard to take seriously and figured it had to be an act or just exaggerated so much as to come off as absurd (by western standards). I never found the act particularly appealing.

You would not be the first man who finds the whole put-on unappealing. Some guys eat it all up, esp. the guys my sister dormed with when she did her semester abroad there.

OK, why is it that Germans seem to be obsesessed with feces? It permeates the culture, everthing from comedy routines to porn.

I met some nice folks in Germany, but they are kinda perverted, even more so than the good ol' US of A.
