I'm absolutely confused about how a dental proceedure spun into life support.

...I'm absolutely confused about how a dental procedure spun into life support... I don't know about this particular case, but if you have heart disease or other heart problems you're generally asked to take antibiotics before having dental work done.
Perhaps bacteria from the teeth get in the bloodstream during a procedure and then attack the heart.

blood poisoning?
A girl that used to babysit my brother and I had a serious blood infection from a dentists drill bit that broke off during a root canal.
Took years for her to get over the infection, it was a really weird case...

Some procedures, i.e. cleaning, can release bacteria directly into the blood stream. Some doctors/dentists now recommend beginning a course of anti-biotics several days before having teeth cleaned.

A tooth abscess can quickly lead to meningitis if not treated/undiagnosed. I believe that is what happened in this case.

Impacted wisdom tooth removal, infection, abcess, burst, lymphatic infection, systemic infection, high fever, major organ damage...et cetera, et cetera.
