FLASH: JUDY WOODRUFF LEAVES CNN This message was just sent on CNN's internal messaging system: "To my colleagues and friends at CNN: I've decided to leave daily journalism after 30 years, 12 of them at this network. I've had challenging and exciting opportunities, been supported by an amazing and talented group of people, and made lifelong friends. I wish them the very best. I'm discussing several long-form projects in television. I'll also teach, do some writing and be an occasional consultant and contributor to CNN. To all of you at CNN who have been so wonderful to me, I can't begin to thank you adequately. But thank you. We will stay in touch and we'll always have memories of good journalism, good times and a few laughs together."

Given that Joel Klein, the boss of CNN News, was the clueless wonder who dismissed us as "some guy in his pajamas in front of his computer," I don't expect CNN to improve with the exit of Judy Woodruff.

Replacing her with dead air would be a slight improvement, but Klein will probably find someone still worse to take the position. When you're driving in the wrong direction, speeding up doesn't help you get to your destination. I.e., Klein has the wrong understanding of both politics and journalism to improve CNN. It will only continue its well-deserved slide.

Having handled a customer complaint line that dealt with a few Westchester Moms, I can say that honestly. At the time of this posting, there is more uppity poor white trash in Westchester's mansions alone than you could catch in a year with a million superglue-covered quarters in Mississippi. And don't even get me started on the upper middle class JAP types there. That's another level of "Westchester Mom" that even further transcends merely being described as female dogs.

Woodruff was responsible for my favorite political segment. The time was approximately a week or so before the 2000 election. Judy interviewed Ralph Nader. It appeared to me that she was doing her best to try and get Nader to resign. She was going thru the liberal litany primarily emphasizing that Gore's policies would be more in line with Nader's philosophy. Ralph kept stressing that they are both captive of Corporate interests, totally sluffing off Judy's points. The more the interview went on, the more frustrated she got. The climax was her pulling out the ultimate issue (from her standpoint)- Bush would appoint people to the supreme court to overturn Roe vs Wade. The look on Judy's face was priceless as Nader was not deterred for even an instant and Judy realizing that her pleas (sorry Judy, I mean interview) was not going to have any effect.

I even enjoyed this more than the Zell Miller - Chris Mathews interview.

My family knows Judy personally and she's a very sweet woman and very traditional in private.
We've also known Al "Hoopes" Hunt since he was 5, they're very respectful of other political beliefs and wouldn't talk the shameful way most freepers are talking.
They've had many problems over the years with a sick son who has spina bifida.
