[Rex Nutting, "Ventas de viviendas nuevas destruyen récord anterior" (New Home Sales Smash Old Record"), CBSMarketWatch, 26/4/05)

I first translated the entire page page via the URL and it worked but left much to be desired.

OK, that's what I did. There's always the syntax and the idiomatic expressions.

Not to pick on the Chinese specifically, but a couple of friends of mine from Chengdu used to need extra help with expressions and slang during their first year or two here - as with any ESLs.

They watched countless hours of American TV and in a year I was asking them what certain English expressions and jokes meant.

Babel Fish -

"the historical data on the property of house by Hispanic announced this week indicate that the policies in favor of the growth of President Bush are making possible who more minority families than before make reality the American dream. Almost 50 percents of the Hispanic families are owners of their own houses and 1,9 million additional people who are members of minorities have happened to be owners of house since President Bush initiated his program to increase to 5,5 million the property of house by minorities for the 2010. The house property is as soon as an aspect of the extensive plan of government of President Bush to increase the opportunities for all the Americans, which includes to improve the Social Insurance in favor of future generations with the creation of personal and voluntary accounts for the retirement that will allow that the minority families accumulate goods and savings for legárselos to their dear beings ".

- Ken Mehlman, president of the RNC

The property of house and the sales of existing and new houses: The sales of existing houses raise in March the "third level of sales higher than it has been registered". "the sales of existing houses increased more of awaited the last month... a group of the sector said Monday in a report that contradicted prognoses that the market would lose force.

The National Association of Real estate agents (National Association of Realtors) said that the sales of houses, houses in row, condominiums and apartments in existing cooperatives, that represent approximately 85% of all the sales of houses, increased 1% to a fit annual rate for the season of 6,89 million in March. That is the third number of sales higher than it has been registered, very over the prognoses of the economists of a month of sales essentially without changes ". [ Sue Kirchhoff, "the sales of houses in March surpass the expectations" ("March Home Salts Defy Expectations"), the USA Today, 26/4/05 ] ·

"the economists have been hoping for months that the house market loses force in comparison with the step record of the 2004. But in recent weeks, the sales also have increased, impelled by a strong economy, generally, and hypothecating rates that remain underneath 6% for a fixed loan of 30 years ". (Sue Kirchhoff, "March Home Salts Defy Expectations," the USA Today, 26/4/05) ·

"the Office of the Census (Census Bureau) said that the property of house by Hispanic reached its maximum point of 49,7% in the first trimester of the 2005". (Sue Kirchhoff, "March Home Salts Defy Expectations," the USA Today, 26/4/05) ·

During the first trimester of the 2005 "property of house, in general, continued being of 69,1%, practically constant, whereas the rate of property between the Afro-American ones was of 48,8%, in comparison with 49,1% in the fourth trimester of the 2004". (Sue Kirchhoff, "March Home Salts Defy Expectations," the USA Today, 26/4/05)

The sales of new houses in the United States reach a record in March. "the sales of new houses in the United States jumped 12% in March to a fit annual rate for the season of 1,431 million, a record, the Department of Commerce calculated Tuesday. The March sales broke the previous record of 1,304 million reached October the past. It was the greater percentage increase of almost 12 years. The increase surpassed much with the expectations of the economists, who anticipated a slight fall of sales to 1,19 million... " [ Rex Nutting, "Sales of new houses destroy previous record" (New Home Salts Smash Old Record"), CBSMarketWatch, 26/4/05)

If you are an American citizen, you should vote - regardless of the language you commonly use.

Good point. The US has no 'official' language, only a majority one.

I don't think "illegals" tranlates literally into German. Maybe undokumentierte Ausländer works but I prefer kriminelle Ausländer.

No more $$ until we see a dramatic crackdown on illegal aliens and protected borders. Got it GOP?

Maybe the GOP has its eyes on all the billions of dollars that are currently being remitted to Mexico.

I'm pretty sure there is a bill in the House to make English the official language, sponsored by Congressman Steve King. He got the same thing done when he was in the Iowa Senate.

It was overwhelmingly popular with the people, but Steve had to overcome the nasty inferences of racism by the liberal establishment to get it done. But he did. Forced a Dem Governor to sign it, even. Left him no choice politically.

I think all official government documents, including voting ballots, should be in English only.

I didn't make it up, it is German for criminal and I believe it is used colloquially as der Kriminelle to mean punk.

That's idiotic. If you are an American citizen, you should vote - regardless of the language you commonly use. If you are an American citizen who commonly speaks Spanish, so what? I hope you vote for the Republican candidates.

Thats idiotic? Our laws require that naturalized citizens must "demonstrate an understanding of the English language, including the ability to read, write, and speak words in ordinary usage in the English language." Since only citizens can vote, there is no reasonable excuse for non-English ballots.

The historian Theodore White points out, "It is distasteful that a nation whose seal bears the inscription E Pluribus Unum (From the Many, One) should be asked to divide itself from one nation into many tribes."

A voice from another era, President Theodore Roosevelt, bluntly expressed this same, consistent American doctrine: "The one absolute certain way of bringing this nation to ruin would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities. We have but one flag. We must also have but one language, and that language is English."

Winston Churchill once said, "The gift of a common language is a priceless inheritance." This gift is part of our inheritance. We would be fools to kick it away.

The historian Theodore White also said there is but 1 glue that holds the nation together. The glue is the Englisn language. If we lose the glue we lose the nation.

I'm going with White, Churchill and Roosevelt on this one, you can go with Jose.

Good news for President Bush.

However, the Hispanics I know still think his immigration policies are wrong.

Most Hispanic home owners are tired of supporting a class of people who are taking advantage of a well meaning USA.

The real reason is economic due to high taxes.

You are probably right. But. Look how long it takes to type " undokumentierte Ausländer" as opposed to illegals.

I don't think "illegals" tranlates literally into German

Illegale Einwanderer= Illegal Immigrants. (illegal with captial i)

Die Illegalen could be used like we say the 'illegals', it's literally correct, but I'm not really sure if it's used colloquially.
