HOT SPRINGS -- When regular gasoline is priced at $2.119 per gallon, it seems odd to call it a gas war.
But that's exactly what is going on these days in Hot Springs and in Chadron, Neb. Gasoline retailers are going toe-to-toe in both cities, pushing their prices well below the $2.299 that drivers are paying in Rapid City.

And to think the South Dakota Legislature actually considered a bill to set a floor price for gasoline sales that would have made this type of below wholesale price competition illegal.
They were aping Minnesota.
The moral of the story is keep the government out of business---
--what's wrong with Hot Springs?
As a current resident, I'd also like an answer to that.
Nothing if you don't mind small towns that have one movie theater that shows movies only on Friday, Saturday and Sundays (unless they've closed down since I left), one drugstore, one clothing store, one hardware store, and a very boring place to live. It's at the southern edge of the Black Hills, and is a beautiful area, but just nothing to do, really.
Theater managed to stay open all winter, running current films...Friday, Sat, & Sunday.
New library is finally getting off the ground.
New mini-mall being built.
Two fairly recent video gaming arcades.
New, large Radio Shack being built; will open next month.
"New" bowling alley opened a couple years ago.
New Farmers' Market.
Second nine holes scheduled to open this summer at the golf course.
New, Holiday Express & convention comples just opened.
The Episcopal Church finally, after 110 years, installed toilets!LOL
Best of all, the Schwan's man knows me on sight.
BUT, for teens, and young adults, unless you like outdoor recreation; or don't mind going to Rapid on a regular basis, I guess there isn't "much to do"...but at least the cops don't mindlessly hassle cruisers & parking lot congregators. Job oportunities kind of suck, too, but that is improving.
Then, again, I grew up in a rural are in the 50s & 60s, so learned how to make our own entertainment, and appreciate the solitude. Especially after moving to the S. F. Barf Area for my last two years of high school (more in my graduating class than had been in all four classes at my previous school), then living in the L.A. & Riverside, CA areas for nearly 20 years. I could hardly wait to flee the uncivil, Californicated "civilization". I also do not have to make a living.
---sounds like it's getting too urban--I'll have to go to Rochford---
Wow, I'll have to check the new stuff out! My wife and I are going back there next month for a few days. We still have relatives there.
