Anybody want to give odds that the bastard Frist will cave?

I had rather bet on the sun rising in the west.

...people love socialism.

Just enough people like socialism. But we can't be blaming these people now. We've got to blame Frist.

It's Frist, Frist, Frist, Frist and Frist....

No testosterone, no spine, no backbone, no b*lls... did I leave anything out? (the only "correct" answer is Frist and one of the above body parts).

Do you really believe Hagel, Chaffee, Snowe, et. al would fail to fall in line after getting "corrective" calls from the President, the Veep, their respective state party chairs, and folks like Richard Viguerie, David Keene, James Dobson? Do you really believe that RINOs would vote in opposition after each of those callers hinted at the consequences of not toeing the line in **this exceptional circumstance**? Torie, you're absolutely right about how this would work on a daily, run-of-the-mill controversy. But this doesn't fall into. Frist mustn't hesitate to work from the Old LBJ Bag O' Tricks on this issue.

Rush Limbaugh was going 'nuts' on the radio today about the absolute right of the Republicans to move 'full steam ahead.' I was in the car attempting to navigate traffic but it got quite technical. I had to choose between listening closely, or crashing.

However, he was correct: The Dems are desperate to negotiate now, because they have painted themselves into a corner.

We cannot lose this one now: just vote up or down. No more filabusters.

It is a small window of opportunity but we must act now. What's to negotiate with Reid?

Frist does not have the power to destroy Senate careers. Senators get their basis of support locally, and from interest groups. Senators are quite independent actors. That would be an empty threat.

Get with the programme Torie. It's Frist, Frist and Frist.

This is the last straw. If Frist caves, if Frist makes ANY deal with Reid, then it is the end of MY association with the Republican party.

Gutless, Spineless GOP Senators ALWAYS manage to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

Here is the note I have been attaching to every request for money I've gotten from the GOP for the last few weeks:

Dear Republican Party Leader:

I will not be donating to the National or State Republican Party Organizations until the following things happen:

1: The Republicans in the U.S. Senate "develop a spine", and quit letting the Democrats and the media set the agenda.

2: The Senate and House Republican leaders start enforcing some discipline over individual members, and teach the "RINOS" like McCain, Chafee, Voinovich, Specter etc. that there is a cost to stabbing the President AND the people that elected them in the back.

3: The President, the Republican Senate and the Republican House members start getting tough on the Illegal Alien Invasion. Not just talk, but action.

Until that happens I'll only donate directly to the individual candidates whom I believe deserve my support. As it stands now, I am sick of the Republican Party as a whole.

You are lucky that there isn't a viable, truly conservative alternative party, or I'd change my affiliation immediately.

Sincerely:

Xxxx X. Xxxxxxx

And yet, the Democrats manage to retain strict unity.

Yes, it IS partially Frist's fault for the defections. These Senators are encouraged to join the Democrats because they fear no reprisal. The same does not happen on the Democrat aisle because of party discipline. The longer this continues, the more Republicans that will defect believing they will pay no consequence and the ranks of "mavericks" will expand rather than decrease even with a growing majority.

Chaffee, Snowe & Collins- let them. See how well it worked for Jeffords. I'm persoanlly hoping they lose their election bids anyway.

McCain- If Spectre can almost lose his seat in a primary with the backing of santorum and the president in a "blue" state, McCain can be defeated in Arizona. He's just never been challenged. This past election he benefited from our attention being trained on re-electing the President. He won't be as lucky six years from now.

Hagel could be easily defeated if a strong conservative ran against him. He has a race in '06, and if he doesn't vote correctly the very real consequence is that the base will retaliate. It would be my preference that he face a conservative challenger regardless of his vote.

I think those senators if subjected to that pressure, would tell them all to take a hike, and then tell them again to take a hike to to the press, and they would go up in the polls for doing so. That is what I think. The Senate does not work the way you think it does. It is very different from the House.

If you have confusion over that statement you will have to articulate it. I believe it is perfectly clear.

Unless that short worded response is meant to indicate incredulity, in which case I challenge you to explain why Democrats do not suffer defections as the Republicans do. Do not try and state it is because they are all Liberal either. There are a number of red state Dems that do not want to commit to vote a position on Justices for fear of what it spells for re-election. Yet they do not defect.

To take your statement seriously that Frist is not owed any blame in his Leadership skills, I would have to in turn assume it is merely "luck" that the Democrats haven't suffered the same problem.

Your cartoon in post #72 needs to be sent to all Senators and fast. It is really good.

Here's my question ... would Frist be doing this without the knowledge of the White House?

Well it is now official.

FRIST WON'T BE PRESIDENT. He does not have what it takes to be a leader.......nor does about 99 percent of the Republican Senate.

Frist wants to make a deal...and let dems pick an appointee. In return we would get only TWO out of the needed seven....NOT TO MENTION THE FACT that there are over 40 open judge seats out there.

FRIST WILL SECURE HIS LEGACY AS A SPINELESS B-TCH IF HE MAKES THIS TYPE OF DEAL!

Sad but true.

The Senators spend too much time inside the beltway.

They have Senate staffers who all live and work in that area....who don't go back to their places of origin.

They are all used to the fancy dinners and elitist thought process.

SO THEY HAVE LITTLE IDEA WHAT PEOPLE OUTSIDE OF THE BELTWAY THINK LIKE.

Frist has fallen into this trap.

The House of Reps is the only halfway real representation of the people.

The Senate is a money club. THE SENATE IS DANGEROUS.

Frist is a moron. If he thinks speaking to churches about this issue and then caving in will win him any points he is sadly mistaken. He is no better than the DEMS who use church as a political tool.

Okay, it sounds like this article was written about what Reid is doing more than Frist---and it is "aides" saying this stuff mostly---

My thoughts right now are this: Frist has gotten nothing but grief for over a week for doing that video for the Justice rally at the churches. He is STILL getting grief--so why would he take that chance, just to turn around and do exactly the opposite of what that rally was all about, getting these judicial nominees an up or down vote?

Besides, I think the Senate will be on recess pretty soon for a week, so I would hope that Frist wouldn't make ANY agreement before they get back from that and see what happens with the Bolton nomination....
