WASHINGTON - In private talks with Majority Leader Bill Frist, the Senate's top Democrat has indicated a willingness to allow confirmation of at least two of President Bush's seven controversial appeals court nominees, but only as part of a broader compromise requiring Republicans to abandon threats to ban judicial filibusters, officials said Monday.
At the same time he offers to clear two nominees to the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals for approval, officials said Sen. Harry Reid (news, bio, voting record), D-Nev., wants a third appointee to be replaced by an alternative who is preferred by Michigan's two Democratic senators. The officials spoke only on condition of anonymity, citing the confidential nature of the conversations between the two leaders.
Reid issued a statement during the day saying he has had numerous conversations with senators in both parties in hopes of avoiding a showdown. "As part of any resolution, the nuclear option must be off the table," the statement concluded, referring to the GOP threat of banning judicial filibusters.

The Dems will say OK, then they'll unleash the gutless GOP buddies they carry around in their pockets.
NO DEALS!
First & his merry band of eunuchs are going to get snookered yet again by Senate 'Rats...
Frist should tell them to ram it jam it and rotate it.
The Dems are playing with a weak hand and they know it. I hope Frist knows it too...but I doubt that.
This is BS. Nominating judges to the court id the privilege and domain of the president, NOT the minority party!!
Frist should tell Reid to stuff it . . . . but, in typical fashion, Frist will probably cave and tell everyone what a great deal he made!!
Agreed.
F*** Reid, minion of Satan, Dammocrap piece of sh!t.
Man, if Frist has this much problem with appeals court nominees, he is going to be totally out of his league when the time comes for the Supremes!!!
Maybe it's time to find a new Senate Majority Leader? hmmmmmm...
Mn two rat Senators need to approve the 3rd pick.......Fox News reporting this now....
NO more compromise judges. Some of the worst judges on the courts are compromise judges. Worse even than the Democrats' choice. David Souter was a compromise judge. The biggest trouble maker of them all, Earl Warren, was Eisenhower's compromise.
To give him credit, Bush refused to compromise in his first term. No compromise now.
I do not like the looks of this at all. If Friest compromisses it will be a sad day indeed for the GOP and one they will live to regret. I find it hard to believe that Bush would go along with this. I notice that as soon as Frist indicated the GOP was going ahead with changing the rules Reid called for a compromise. I am sure Custer would have liked to compromise with the Indians as well when he found out he was going to get killed..
Time for Frist to put up or shut up. Reid should NOT be in control. We worked too d*mned hard to put Republicans in the majority for them to sell us out now.
Frist will roll over again. He remains a gutless wonder.
