I am sure Iran wants to pull that off. Whether U.S. would allow Iranian nuclear program to move that far is quite another question Iran has to deal with.

Detonated at a height of 60 to 500 kilometers above the continental U.S., one nuclear warhead could cripple the country ?
ROTFLMAO
Hope they can handle the 100-200 W88s they get in return.

This has been a concern for decades from other powers.
It makes all the more important the need to encourage the use of EMP-resistant electronics. A fair amount more expensive, but this could become as important as the Y2K testing was as time goes on.

Iran is not only covertly developing nuclear weapons, it is already testing ballistic missiles specifically designed to destroy America's technical infrastructure, effectively neutralizing the world's lone superpower Don't think so.

Sure, Iran. Go ahead and launch in EMP weapon -- it will be the last weapon you ever launch. Our "big boomer" submarines at sea are impervious to EMP and will retaliate en masse.

Can you say RagHead toast?
I know what I would do if something like this were to happen, but to keep from being banned from FR I'll bite my tounge and start loading clips.

Right, I work with guys that would love to get back on a Sub and would have NO problem pushing the right buttons.
The islamoscum are digging their own graves, the faster the better as far as I'm concerned.

It makes all the more important the need to encourage the use of EMP-resistant electronics. And to save money, clinton DOD hacks started specifying non-rad hardened components.

What about all the previous atmospheric tests. Were they too high?
To: ConservativeMind
Most modern equipment in civilian use is far less subsceptible to EMP destruction than prior generations. For example, most EFI cars, when subjected to EMP, will suffer no damage due to the Faraday cage effect of their metal computer housings, and will only need to be rebooted.

There is no way a single nuke could possibly knock out even a majority of our critical infrastructure.
It would take several thermonuclear devices (hydrogen bombs) to accomplish that. While Iran may possess some standard fission type weapons and relatively short range tactical missiles there is no way they have the capability to do this.
The EMP threat from Iran is greatly exaggerated.

Iran can't keep a light bulb lit for 48 hours so we should think they can do this?
To: Lurker
It would take more than several warheads. A constellation of them would be more like it. But then again, HAARP would make it impossible for thier missiles to determine their altitude for detonation. (Atmosphere way early.)

And Canada wants nothing to do with a missile defense system.
I guess that they think that in an event such as this that the laws of physics will be suspended and any and all damage done will be confined to only our side of the border.
