LiNK Protest Wrap-up
Permanent Mission of the Republic of Korea to the United Nations - New York City
Friday, April 22, 2005
LiNK representatives from nearly 20 area universities and friends gathered at the Republic of Korea's Permanent Mission to the United Nations yesterday to protest South Korea's official policy of negligence for refugees and silence on the issue of North Korean human rights. Despite competition from nearby protests against Japan's Security Council candidacy, they stood outside chanting "Free North Korea, Accept Refugees!" and other slogans for nearly three hours as it began to rain, asking to meet with any Mission or Consular representative [ they are housed in the same building ]. Diplomats from nearby Missions were curious and concerned when educated about the issue. In contrast, nearly 40 Korean diplomats and staff passed us in haste, some ignoring us all together, other shoving us out of the way, and others claiming they "didn't have time" for the issue.
Not enough time for the lives and liberty of a third of all the Koreans on the planet. Needless to say, we will be returning, with a much larger force, all over the world. Silence is acceptance. Future protest information forthcoming.
Thank you to the many concerned hearts that joined us that day.
The poster says that 22 million(N. Koreans) are more important than Dokdo, an islet which touched off massive outrage in S. Korea when Japan renews its claim on it. |
Ping!
You know, you can blog about other blogs. There are some good photos on that site. I don't know if Xanga offers track backs though.
NK Ping
I might do that.
Another good one, thanks--TTS
You are welcome. Nice to know that somebody find them useful.
So much for the Kyopos.... This will actually play with Roh's mind a lot; while some of his cronies are die-hard leftists who don't give a damn about international or public opinion, Roh is, at heart, a naive demagogue who will be alarmed that ethnic Koreans in the United States do not love him. Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha.
It's really sad to say, though it is true, that the most clear thinking ROK foreign policy expert for North Korea is Hwang Jang-yop, the high-ranking, mid-90's defector from the North. Roh and his guys talk in circles and practice appeasement that would make even Neville Chamberlain blush, while Hwang gives solid policy options for dealing with the North. Nobody has all the answers, but Hwang is one of the few people in the ROK who present any credible options.
Thanks, TLR.
Bttt!Very nice website and great links!
And why are the signs in english?
(as if I didn't know)
Yeah, and he has to soften his view once in a while and is not even free to travel overseas because his view clashes with the government's. His overall view is quite on the mark, IMHO.
It is interesting that Kim Dae-jung, Roh's mentor until quite recently, has fallen out with Roh. Apparently, Kim sensed that the whole N. Korean situation is heading for the disaster, with U.S. a step away from going for sanction or quarantine, and S. Korean government flatly against it. Now he is being canned by media for using intel outfit to cover up for the presence of his out-of-wedlock daughter with illegal hush money.
Eagles UP!
Hey, you are back! I though you fell off a cliff somewhere.
