PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: The President and First Lady are at their Crawford ranch, where they will host the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia next week. The First Lady plans to attend the wedding this weekend of Mexico's billionaire beer baroness Asuncion Aramburuzabala to Tony Garza, the U.S. ambassador to Mexico.

THE WEEK AHEAD: From yesterday's WH press gaggle aboard Air Force One.

Monday, the President will welcome the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia at his ranch.

Tuesday, GWB will participate in a roundtable on strengthening Social Security in Galveston, Texas. He will return to Washington that afternoon.

Wednesday, the President will make remarks at the National Small Business Week Conference. The topic is energy. He will also make remarks that evening at the National Republican Senatorial Committee Dinner.

Thursday, the President will meet with the President of Panama in the Oval Office.

Friday, GWB participates in a Social Security event in Northern Virginia. He will also participate in a tree planting on the north lawn of the White House in honor of Arbor Day.

Saturday, the President will attend the White House Correspondents Association Dinner at the Washington Hilton Hotel in D.C.

QUOTE OF THE DAY: From the Presidential Radio Address, April 23, 2005.

As Iraqis assume increasing responsibility for the stability of their country, Iraqi security forces are becoming more self-reliant and taking on greater responsibilities. Today, more than 150,000 Iraqi security forces have been trained and equipped, and for the first time, the Iraqi army, police, and security forces outnumber U.S. forces in Iraq. Like free people everywhere, Iraqis want to be defended and led by their own countrymen. We will help them achieve this objective, and then our troops will come home with the honor they have earned.

Barney must have been satisfied with advance preparations. He even had the WH photographers take this cool shot of AF1 as The Boss waved to the crowd there to see him off.

The President carries Barney off Air Force One yesterday after their arrival in Waco, TX. U.S. In this photo, it looks like something startled the President, although Barney doesn't look concerned.

Now that he's a mature 5-year-old, Barney doesn't fit quite so comfortably under The Boss' arm anymore. Even dogs are subject to middle-age spread.

Gen. Peter Pace addresses the media as President George W. Bush and Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld look on Friday, April 22, 2005. The President announced his nomination of Gen. Pace to be Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, saying, "When confirmed by the Senate, General Pete Pace will be the first Marine in history to hold this vital position. He knows the job well."

President George W. Bush and Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld listen as Admiral Edmund Giambastiani, Jr., speaks to the media Friday, April 22, 2005, at the White House after being nominated by the President as Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The President struggled to pronounce the admiral's last name, whereupon GWB instantly conferred the nickname "Admiral G" on him. "Admiral G" presently is Commander of the U.S. Joint Forces Command in Norfolk, and has been closely involved in Rummy's efforts to transform the military from it's old cold-war orientation to a lighter, more flexible force.

The Vice President was also on hand in the Roosevelt Room as GWB made these nominations public.

This was the moment GWB gave up trying to pronounce Admiral Giambastiani's last name and dubbed him "Admiral G." [It's Gee am bas ti ah nee -- the President was OK until he got to the last two or three syllables.]

Good day, snugs. LOL! Don't think so. It's just the middle-age spread that gets to most of us eventually. Barney is going on six, so he has now reached doggie middle age.
