OCALA, Fla. — A convicted sex offender apparently committed suicide in despair over signs posted in his neighborhood calling him a child rapist.

Clovis Claxton (search), 38, was found dead by his father with one of the signs beside his body. It was less than a day after his release from a psychiatric hospital.

His mother blames Marion County (search) Commissioner Randy Harris (search) for her son's death. Harris proposed putting up flyers in the neighborhoods of sex offenders to alert neighbors.

Random thoughts... but not entirely. Things I wonder, but can't entirely answer.

The thing is, our souls cry out for true justice. Mere death isn't "justice". True justice can only come from God, and that is what we desire.

When a child is molested, there is no real justice in the punishment for the perpetrator. Nothing we can do will right the wrong. The debt owed by the perpetrator is far too great for him to pay.

Only God's justice will suffice.

And so...

Only God's substitutional sacrifice can pay the debt.

It's not the death, it's the glee over the death that I was commenting upon. As I said, sometimes death is a necessity. This does not mean we should be overjoyed at it.

How about "child molester" tatooted on their foreheads? Then people would know to keep their kids far away from them.

"Ah, the outpouring of Christian love on this thread is simply overwhelming"

This may be the stupidest statement I've ever seen on this board. It's liberals who have compassion for scum like this.

I agree. I'm personally saddened by the story --so much loss and so much tragedy.

The wake of devastation left behind by this one man is tremendous.

It is heartening to know Christians want to protect children from molesters. Didn't Jesus say that those that harm children - it would be better a milstone was tied around their neck and they were thrown into the ocean?

Since you ask, dear Cyborg:

First, there are two aspects to God's will: the secret, and the revealed. The secret will is God's eternal counsel, which is in fact always carried out -- by God (Psalm 115:3, etc.). The revealed will is found exclusively in the Bible, tells us what we are to do or not to do, and is often violated (cf. Deuteronomy 29:29).

I know that this was not God's revealed will because God says we are not to commit murder, including the murder of ourselves (Romans 13:9).

I know that it is not God's revealed will for anyone to gloat over his murdering himself because Scripture forbids it (Proverbs 24:17-18; 1 Corinthians 13:6, etc.). The arrogant self-righteous superiority that takes joy in another's ruin is nothing commended by God (1 Peter 5:6).

Now, if you want to change the justice system, make your proposals. My questions remain unanswered. Our society tells a person the debt he owes. He pays it. Is it now our place to exact from him what we estimate as the deficit?

If so, what is the difference between that and vigilantism, mob rule, and anarchy?

Serious questions.

One more time. It's not the death that is the issue, it's the glee some of these folks take over it.

If it were only so easy to get rid of these creeps! They can dish it out but they sure can't take it when the light of day is shone on them.

"no one should take joy in it"

How about satisfaction, or at least relief?
