"Who's doing your lawn?"

Americans mow my lawn. And Lake Bluff, Illinois, by the way, is part of the uber-liberal north shore suburbs.

Lester has one question: "Who's doing your lawn?"

Ha, yeah. That'd be me.

Just leave Chicago and come to southern CA. You can spend damn-near a million dollars on a home and mow the yard with a pair of scissors in under 20 minutes.

"Who's doing your lawn?"

The same guy who has done it for years, american and proud of it. I pay him in advance for the season and he or one of his american guys does it weekly and they do a great job.

willing to work for the wages she can pay

Tough *hit. She can pay the same wages the rest of us pay. She just wants the AMERICAN PEOPLE to subsidize her employees with government benefits she isn't willing to pay.

BTW, we mow our own lawn.

"Who's doing your lawn?"

The guys who do my lawn (and shovel my snow) are American.

However, I must confess the guys who do the heavy landscaping, tree trimming, etc. on our lot are all Salvadorans. Their boss is a wonderful guy -- completely legal, married, two lovely kids -- who works his ass off to realize the American dream. He has a full time job with the company that does brush and tree trimming for the local utility, and on the side, nights and weekends, he runs his own landscaping company. I have no idea how many of the guys who work for him are legal or illegal, but they are doggone hard workers.

My boys and I also mow lawns. Hard to get jobs around here because the Hispanics take them all. We'll keep trying so the boys can earn some college money. Life is tough.

"We've already replaced most of the workers we had hoped to bring up,"

Assuming they didn't replace them with illegal labor, I would assume they found some Americans to do the jobs that 'Americans aren't willing to do'. Interesting......

Bottom line: this is a "zero value added" occupation. If we can't find Americans to wash the cars, be a nanny, mow the lawns, clean the pools because folks are not willing to pay the going rate, let those tasks remain undone.

The world won't end if the house windows are dirty. The rest of us should not have to accomodate the lazy and the niggardly...

Here in Florida, most of the landscapers don't speak English.

This is confusing.

Everyone at FR says that are opposed only to illegal workers.

Now here is a story about legal guest workers and everyone seems to be opposed to them also.

light brown Hispanic grass... and NOBODY will agree to cut it !!!

It's now about 3 feet high... waving insolently in the sunlight...
hissing as the wind blows, "We don't need no steeeeeenkin'
Gringo lawn mower" !!! ;-))

I guess the lazy libs will have to get out and push the mower themselves.

My husband worked for a landscaping company during the summers in college. My son has friends in their early twenties who have their own landscaping businesses. 'Seems like there could be a whole lot of Americans working those jobs.

I mow my own lawn (non-motorized push mower)and shovel my own snow (backsaver shovel). It isn't that hard. My one neighbor spends more time with his labor-saving power equipment than I do on my yard.

The big strapping teenage football player next door does not do lawns, says it makes him sneeze. He doesn't do snow either. So the neighbors hire it out.

The football guy drives or rides to school. He could walk there in 9 minutes.

How lazy can people get?

"We've already replaced most of the workers we had hoped to bring up," said Tracey Lester, who with her husband, Ron, owns Architerra in northwest suburban Indian Creek.

So what's the problem? They hired Americans.

Do I understand this correctly? Fewer visas are issued so fewer immigrants will come here legally? That means there will be a higher demand for illegal immigrants? Right?

Or will that landscaping company on the super-white-liberal lakeshore employ excons citizens just let out of prison to do the yard work? Yeah, sure.

We just might discover that we don't live in a zero sum game.

"Who's doing your lawn?"

Same two people who have always done it, along with the weeding, sweeping, watering, planting, and those two people would be me and my handsome husband of 45 years. If the time comes when we need help, we'll hire Americans, if there are any of them left.

[["They are family members and friends of our current workers who count on this work each year," said Stacy Betz, human resources manager for Mariani Landscaping. "We've trained them and invested in them and they're fantastic individuals." ]]

Too damn bad! Who do you think did those jobs before the Mexicans came and undercut Americans? Hard working Americans thats who!

I have a better job. Hire Americans and pay them a decent wage and you will get the same quailty of work out of them.
