PETA believes it may have a powerful new ally: the pope.
The star-studded animal rights group whose high-profile spokespeople include Paul McCartney and Pamela Anderson is saying that Pope Benedict XVI is an animal-rights supporter and theyre hoping he will join their cause.
PETA wasted no time in firing off a letter to the pope yesterday, congratulating him and asking, Would you please encourage people to consider the suffering of animals by lending a supportive word to our efforts?
The letter cited comments made by the pope three years ago when he was Cardinal Ratzinger: Certainly, a sort of industrial use of creatures, so that geese are fed in such a way as to produce as large a liver as possible, or hens live so packed together that they become just caricatures of birds, this degrading of living creatures to a commodity seems to me in fact to contradict the relationship of mutuality that comes across in the Bible.
Were not expecting him to appear in one of our Id rather go naked than wear fur ads, a PETA spokesman told The Scoop, but hes got a history of speaking out about animal rights and now maybe Christians will understand and support our campaign against KFC.

These PETA types really chap my butt.

I've got some really good moisturizer for that. :)
No, seriously, you're right....they are terrorists. In fact, if I remember correctly, I think one or more of them threatened to kill Ted Nugent's children.
Well, that was silly. Everyone knows that beef goes better with disciples.
"They don't care a whit about relevance. Like all such groups, they are after the money."
Agreed. However, establishing relevance would likely lead to a much higher cash influx.
PETA wants to know if the moisturizer you're offering up was made by a cosmetic company that employs animal testing.
Doesn't that sound like another example of poor judgement - threatening the lives of the Motor City Madman's children?
Ever notice how there's no PETA branch in Asia?
Try the spotted owl. It's de-lish!!
Context is everything, isn't it?
How about this one?
"And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which [is] upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which [is] the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat." (Genesis 1:29)
I don't think the Pope is against ritual slaughter, or the eating of flesh.
What he speaks against seems to be the merciless treatment of animals in creating foie grois (however you spell it) and so forth.
He's probably against skinning animals alive (which does happen), etc..
This is not to say he believes, as PETA does, that animals are equal to humans.
Rather, he seems to criticize the callous treatment many animals get when raised for food. He isn't saying don't eat meat or give luxury apartments to cattle...
Conservatives need to stop being reactionary when there are calls for a better treatment of livestock raised for food/fur.
And probably no chapter in Africa either.
As for Ted --I think he let PETA know that if any of them came within a mile of his kids, that person would die a slow, agonizing death...which is probably why as far as I know, no one has threatened his children since, or made any attempt on them. They know what Ted would do if anyone tried.
Come to think of it -- this threat was made some years ago...I expect his children by now might be old enough to take care of themselves in that respect.
Once again, I agree.
I've never seen a group of people express so overjoyed with the cruel and/or inhumane treatment of animals.
"Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world",
into:
"Grass of God, you take away the sin of the world"?
Not quite sure what point you are making.
Wow, Didn't really have to wait too long, did we.
Look what just popped up:

"Everything that lives and moves will be food for you. Just as I gave you green plants, now I give you everything" - Gen. 9:4.
The lack of meat sustainance has finallly affected their pea brains.
Get some Boudreaux's Butt Cream for that....
Most of us just say it to piss off confused people like you. Other than the time I was little and tried to feed my goldfish strawberry ice cream (he didn't like it -or his toilet-bowl funeral either), but you need to get it into your head that animals are first and formost food. There is nothing wrong with protecting animals. PeTA wants us to stop eating and wearing them.
