OK..here's what we know..Senate is in recess for the weekly party caucus luncheons. Supposed to resume at 2:15. on C-span 2.. The Foreign Relations committee is supposed to meet at 2:45 to vote on the Bolton nomination. Lugar has refused requests for a delay. Just before the Senate recessed, Reid objected to Frist's UC request for the Froeign Relations committee to meet today. Frist withdrew his request..

They are saying it is serious, but are just stalling for time hoping they can dig and find something else to throw out that will suit their agenda.

Of course, now they say they want to meet sometime in the next week or so after exploring all the "new evidence", which I think has been frankly sitting in some Dimbulb closet for 3 years.

Do not despair my fellow freepers, John Bolton will be confirmed as the ambassador to the U.N.

Cheer up.

We still should have a full staff at the UN, except for an ambassador.

I still like the idea of just not sending anyone--just an eviction notice.

I'm series. It would be hugh.

As Pukin Dog said today, they have set the standard now -- and it's so high, when Scalia comes up for the USSC, they'll have to accuse him of murder.

Biden is so darn smug (kind words for the sake of public viewing!).

Why don't they call in some of the dumb-bell witnesses that have appeared in the Michael Jackson trial next? LOL, they would seem to be able to provide testimony that is just as credible against Bolton. (Now...not that I believe Jackson is innocent, and let's not go there now.) But, this is a circus, too!

Makes sense-Thanks, Darkwolf.

-if Bolton fails, W should say he'll pick a new choice when he gets around to it. When the dems bitch he can say "You blocked my choice."

We don't need no namby pamby ambassador to the UN. That wouldn't do us or them any good. As I said before, Let them move the whole h***hole to Paris ON THEIR DIME. I don't know if even Bolton could reform that place.

True enough, but we know that Bush won't do that. We will want a seat at the table, though I think the way to reform the UN us to REMOVE it. I hope if Bolton doesn't get in Bush takes his sweet time replacing him as nominee to the point where Reid and Pelosi call a press conference calling on him to blah blah blah.

I am probably one of the biggest "let's not go nuclear" people in this place, and I am completely fed up with these wussy Republicans. I was one of those calling for calm and thoughtfulness since November. Well, that time is OVER.

Truly! I don't know who could, and who would want the job. Trying to fix the UN with even one good man is like trying to cure Cancer with an asprin!

This is infuriating:

More Bolton [Rich Lowry]

An e-mail from well-informed source:

“A few tidbits…

1. The Senate went into a special recess so Bolton could be voted out. Voinovich knew this. He was on board. If he had a problem, he could have told Leadership before we went into a special recess.

2. Voinovich's reason for not voting for Bolton today? "I haven't been to the hearings and haven't heard all these allegations until now." Embarrassing.

3. Lugar could have solved this problem easily — he could have asked Voinovich to abstain if he didn't feel prepared to vote. He could have told him that he was embarrasing him (Lugar) and all Republicans for blindsiding him. He could have recessed for 5 minutes so Republicans could have talked to him.

4. Lugar postponed for *three weeks.* He could have called another meeting tomorrow morning and given people time to get to Voinovich.

5. Chafee — does anybody think he'll stick, now that Voinovich is giving him cover?”

plus this:

Rich Lowry in National Review's 'The corner' seems ti be intimating that Bolton is toast and that it was the Powell/Armitage loyalists still in the State Dept. that burned him.

"voice mailbox is full"

I got through shortly after the hearing. I'm sure I left enough on there for you too. But I think I will call everyday until they come back to this matter.
