Time to End the Jacko Trial
Fox News ^ | 04/16/2005 | Roger Friedman

Posted on 04/16/2005 10:04:11 AM PDT by Hawk44

It's now time to stop the madness and declare a mistrial in California vs. Jackson. What happened on Friday in the Santa Maria courthouse should not have happened at all. Whether or not Michael Jackson is guilty of child molestation is no longer the issue. The Santa Barbara District Attorney's office is now potentially guilty of exploiting a disturbed woman's condition to get a conviction. It's wrong, and it's not going to achieve anything but tarnishing the reputations of their well-intentioned staff. The testimony on Friday of Janet Arvizo, mother of Michael Jackson's teenage accuser, was alternately maddening and heart breaking. She came across on the stand during her cross-examination by Thomas Mesereau as a compulsive and pathological liar, a shrewd manipulator and a real operator. But she was also quite sad, and unable to control her emotions.

"...post your last thread..."

Should read "...copy your last post..."

Working too hard today, I guess.

It has been common practice since I've been with FR for posters to refer to other threads, some theirs, some from others.

The point that MHGinTn was making seemed to reflect the exact point that I made on the other thread. It's sort of like the live, online version of pinging the WPPFF list, or any other kind of ping list, and having all the TS/MS types from every corner of the world come out to see what's happening.

Therefore, I have not only done nothing that violates common decency, or courtesy, but I personally ended up my conversation with Peach in peaceful resolution.

If you're looking for discourtesy, focus on the FReepers who toss bombs and then melt into the mist. Those are the real problem cases! I, at least, engage in conversation, hoping for some relative conclusion or compromise as finality.

How about we throw the lot of them in jail and call it a day?

in a normal country no one would pay attention to this trial.

that was before television.

Unfortunately, it's not only the pro-lifers who are doing the stalking. Peach, if I recall, began this flame war by insulting someone on this thread, even though this thread is not about Terri Schiavo.

Amen. If we the public know the perp is guilty then a trial definitely should be skipped. I suggest a voting system somewhat like American Idol be employed.

Remember we were just discussing Roger Friedman recently on this very topic, the Jackson trial.

I've had problems before with his analysis on a variety of topics but this call for ending this trial is way over the top.

She's a major witness in this trial, her credibility matters a lot.

Pundits on Fox and MSNBC both stated that her story would be incredible except there is supporting evidence such as surveillance videos of her and her family that were seized at the private eye's office. The private eye Jackson had hired to watch them.

There was other evidence along that line that buttressed her testimony.

I've got a different take on Michael Jackson. Reprehensible as pedophilia is, he shouldn't be held any more culpable than two eleven year old's playing "doctor".

Clearly, M.J. is severely emotionally arrested, even going so far as to name his rance "Neverland" of Peter Pan (the boy who never grew up) fame.

I hold Sony Music solely responsible for not keeping him on a short leash knowing full well his prediliction for deviant behavior, and insisting that he get proper psychological counseling. They should have held his money in trust, appointed a guardian, given him a modest allowance like any child, and prevented all of this grief from happening in the first instance.

Actually, it started at post #8 and I found it because I was reading along on another thread and that person supplied a link over here in order to bash Peach. (And yes, they've made peace)

Now, to the Jackson case: He's toast.

Ping to my 90 since I mention you, not to extend the discussion of my daring to post my opinion.

I can only hope you're right. I note that WL-Law agrees with Friedman on this thread.

I feel the same way you do.....there is a difference with playing grab @$$ as a kid and a 'real adults' life quest of being a pediphile.

Ooh, thanks for that link. Will read it. Other pundits I heard yesterday on MSNBC and Fox conceded the mother sounded very "different" but that the supporting evidence was very compelling.

Will stay tuned on this but I can't see at this point why one would call for the trial to end right now.

"Pedophiles don't prey on solidly nuclear families. They deliberately go after dysfunctional families and families with little or not parental supervision.

Then when the sexual abuse is discovered and reported and the matter goes to trial, the pedophile's attorneys claim the complainants aren't reliable.

It's worked for a number of years."

I agree with you completely. If I were on this jury, the best that Jackson & his elegant defense team could possibly achieve would be a hung jury, because I'd never vote for an acquittal. This guy has been a sexual predator for 15 years (that we know of). It is going to be outrageous, if he walks........or dances away on top of his latest SUV. He'll just continue to destroy young boys and entire families, as he has already done.

The fact that this mother is odd, colorful, changeable, unstable, peculiar, loquacious........i.e. not "to the manor born" or educated at Wellesley College, like the Slickster, Killery.........doesn't have a thing to do with Michael Jackson's guilt.

Peach, you got it exactly right. The pedophile (client) finally goes on trial, and his magician lawyers have a field day "proving" that the accusers are all big-time liars, because they're all odd, unstable, dysfunctional people! I hope this jury is smarter than the O.J. jury was.

Very smart remark. Why is it that Jackson got away with running everyone around like robots? No one dared to say, "NO" to him - not once! Whatever he wanted and whatever he decided he was going to do he was allowed to do, including picking out genetically "white" children, all 3 of whom he bought. No one will ever convince me that his genes are in any of those children. They're all nordicly white. The guy has spent the past 20 years trying to become white.........and then has the gall to cry "racism" and to compare himself with Nelson Mandela.

You know, MizSterious, these posts are numbered so you can see the sequence of things. And it was not I who dragged an argument about another matter onto this thread.

Not that facts have ever gotten in the way of your opinion before.

As I see it, as long as Hollywood was making tons of money from M.J., they just didn't give a rat's a$$ and gave him everything he demanded. From where I sit, that is called criminally negligent facilitation and they should be held equally, if not more responsible than M.J. because they are supposedly the adults in this sad scenario while clearly, M.J. is not because of his severe emotional arrestation.

"........while clearly, M.J. is not because of his severe emotional arrestation."

I don't agree. He's an evil, cunning, conniving and quite ruthless predator. Look at all of the anguish he put all of those families through - both while he was in the process of his infatuation with each boy, and after the "affair" (yech) was over, the family in question in disarray, running scared, being hounded by Jackson's goon squad...!!

No! I wouldn't say that he's just a victim himself.....of "arrested emotional development." Child molestation is a crime. He did the crimes, multiple times. He's the one on trial, and I hope that he gets put away for the rest of his life........which is what a sentence on this charge would effectively mean for this creep.

Sorry, but enough is enough. If he walks, then there will be yet more victims. These people can not be cured. Every professional and law enforcement person will tell you that. Nevermind who should have been minding Jackson. They didn't have the money or the power. They were all dependant upon His Royal Craziness! It's just human nature to "go along in order to get along." They didn't want to jump off of the gravy train, so they just shut up and let it all happen. It is disgusting.

As for "crazy," this mother now on the witness stand has the best line of the entire trial: "Neverland is a place for booze, pornography and sex with little boys." That's it in a nutshell. The woman may not have the polish of a Wellesley or Vassar College graduate, but she said a mouthful with that line. I hope the jury remembers THAT, if nothing else.

RE: Wellesley and Vassar grads.......pedophiles don't go after educated, calm, ordered, polished, cohesive, well-adjusted families. They instinctively prey on the weirdos.
