Feds say Reamstown man who was angry over plastic surgery mailed explosive to Chicago doctor.

LANCASTER COUNTY, PA - A Reamstown man, unhappy with his penile-enlargement surgery, allegedly posed as a Methodist minister when he mailed a small bomb to his Chicago surgeon, a new indictment says.Blake R. Steidler, 24, of East Church Street, was charged by a federal grand jury on Wednesday with four counts of wrongdoing. He faces up to life in prison and a $1 million penalty.
The eight-page indictment adds more details to Steidler’s alleged actions, which the New Era reported in February after he alerted authorities and turned himself in.
The bomb was recovered from the mail before it caused any injury, authorities said. Steidler remains in federal custody in Philadelphia.
He faces one count each of using a weapon of mass destruction, unlawful making of an explosive, unlawful mailing of an explosive and interstate transportation of an explosive.
“If you wanted to kill somebody, this is not the way to do it. But it would cause more than a scare. It would cause bodily harm,” said Special Agent John Hageman for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms.
According to the indictment, Steidler fashioned the small homemade bomb at his home, drove to Ohio and mailed it to his unidentified Chicago surgeon “as an act of revenge.”
Documents filed earlier in case said Steidler maintained to authorities that he had suffered “serious complications” from the procedure, performed about a year-and-a-half earlier.
The indictment does not specify the kind of surgery, but law enforcement sources and the Reading Eagle today reported it was a penile-enlargement procedure.
The bomb consisted of black gunpowder, a carbon dioxide cartridge, a 9-volt battery, a model rocket engine igniter and dental floss, according to the indictment.
Steidler allegedly placed the bomb in a jewelry box with a typewritten letter that said in part:
“I’ve just returned from a missions trip from Brazil. I’d like you to have this souvenir I picked up on my missionary trip as a token of my appreciation. Thank you so much and God bless! Pastor Edwards.”
Steidler allegedly added to the package a return address of a United Methodist Church in Warren, Ohio, and mailed the package from a postal drop box in North Bloomfield, Ohio.
But after mailing the package Feb. 11, Steidler drove home and had second thoughts, authorities said previously. He called 911 the next day and turned himself in.
Alerted by Steidler’s call, a bomb squad safely recovered the device from a mail processing center in Youngstown, Ohio, authorities said previously.
I wonder if he met the doctor via e-mail.

Last year they filed WMD charges against someone whose bomb went off in his own lap, and didn't kill him. (Burned him, though.) How does one argue in a court of law that he should be convicted of WMD anything, if the device didn't kill even one person who was holding it?

I watched an interview with a guy who had a botched penile episode about ten years ago. The guy described all the pain and suffering...and no ability to function after that...and I kept thinking that you'd have to be crazy to allow this procedure to continue. This is the medical process that never delivers...but the dimwits out there keep on getting it. I can't understand that. I'll bet that at least 500 guys per year get the surgery in the US. Something is wrong with this system.
Maybe they aren't getting the right donors.
