Iraqis Find Graves Thought to Hold Hussein's Victims
NY TImes ^ | 4/15/05 | ROBERT F. WORTH

BAGHDAD, Iraq, April 14 - Investigators have discovered several mass graves in southern Iraq that are believed to contain the bodies of people killed by Saddam Hussein's government, including one estimated to hold 5,000 bodies, Iraqi officials say.

The graves, discovered over the past three months, have not yet been dug up because of the risks posed by the continuing insurgency and the lack of qualified forensic workers, said Bakhtiar Amin, Iraq's interim human rights minister. But initial excavations have substantiated the accounts of witnesses to a number of massacres. If the estimated body counts prove correct, the new graves would be among the largest in the grim tally of mass killings that have gradually come to light since the fall of Mr. Hussein's government two years ago. At least 290 grave sites containing the remains of some 300,000 people have been found since the American invasion two years ago, Iraqi officials say.

Forensic evidence from some graves will feature prominently in the trials of Mr. Hussein and the leaders of his government. The trials are to start this spring...."

this one is ironic, considering the oil-for-food guy resigning, LOL

Deadly Results of US/UK led Sanctions Against Iraq
One Child Dies Every 10 Minutes
6000 Children Each Month
Nearly 1 Million Dead in 10 Years
'The conditions in Iraq are appalling. Malnutrition is running at about 30% for children under 5 years old.... This is directly attributable to the impact of sanctions, which have caused the breakdown of the clean water system, health facilities and all the things that young children require....It's incompatible with the UN Charter, with the Convention on Human Rights, with the Convention on the Rights of the Child....'
- Denis Halliday, 34-year veteran of United Nations, upon resigning his post as UN administrator for the 'Oil for Food' program

Then the NYT:
12 Americans Stage Protest Hussein Is Happy to Allow" The New York Times, John F. Burns
"Iraq's contention, considered wildly exaggerated by many who have studied the issue, is that the sanctions have caused more than 1.7 million deaths, including those of a million children, through malnutrition and disease resulting from shortages of food and medicines." (October 27, 2002, p.8)

Here's some Anti-American hatred from the DU. I'm gonna go take a shower now, I feel dirty having gone there! =P

1. I have a pretty good idea who is digging these mass graves. When the truth comes out it isn't going to be pretty either.

The US, in the Gulf War, dug mass graves to bury Iraqi soldiers in. The US also buried living Iraqi soldiers in their bunkers and trenches. You have no idea who the people in those graves are, nor why the graves were dug. I'd rather have a tin-foil hat ready than swallow whatever propaganda piece the Empire puts out as true.
That's what I'm talkin about! US is responsible for many mass graves in Iraq. Remember how we scorched retreating Iraqi soldiers waving white flags? I do.
Were these victims some who rose against Saddam with US encouragement? But Bush The Smarter decided it wouldn't be prudent to intervene at that time & let them die.
George H.W. Bush should get co-billing with Saddam for these mass graves, since we encouraged the uprising and then didn't lift a finger when the retribution occurred.
encouraged by the neo-con death cult, currently holding power, during their first regime. During those 8 Clinton years in the wilderness, they saw the opening provided by e-voting to continue the job so rudely interrupted by the people.

Despicable!

All pre war deaths in Iraq by starvation, disease, lack of medicine or reasonable medical care --- rests squarely on the heads of all those bastards in the U.N. that profited by the "Oil for Food" corruption and on the Iraqi leaders..

Iraqi's oil rich fellow Arab Muslim brothers in the area, are not blameless....

Hell, their "fellow Arab Muslims" are STILL responsible for many of the deaths STILL being experienced as a result of "foreign Arabs" in Iraq conducting Jihad against civilians and military forces of Iraq...

From my viewpoint -- we didn't kill nearly enough of the bastards...
A lot more need killin....

Semper Fi

Amazing ain't it

What do you expect from a bunch of government school educated, mindless robots that need the government to lead them to the toilet and wipe their worthless butts for them after they have taken a "Klinton"?

Let the blood of the massacred continue to cry out from the ground, to bring righteous judgment to those who killed them.

How many innocent Iraqis were mass murdered during the Clinton years?

How many were murdered during the Oil for Food Scam?
