Politicizing of schools continues

Parents, keep the Pepto-Bismal nearby. Today while your children attend college, high school and even middle school, they will be subjected to more political indoctrination courtesy of another left-wing pressure group.
Today's topic of indoctrination is homosexuality. This is brought to you by the activists at the "Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network." The GLSEN has declared today a "Day of Silence" to advance their homosexual agenda.
GLSEN students are encouraged to remain silent throughout the school day while wearing T-shirts promoting their cause. If addressed by a teacher or peer, the protester is to give the person a card that reads:
"I am participating in the Day of Silence, a national youth movement protesting the silence faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and their allies."
The card also states "I believe that ending the silence is the first step toward fighting these injustices."
Of course such injustices are in the eye of the beholder.
Recently, a Christian student attending Poway High School experienced his own injustice when he was suspended from school for wearing a T-shirt referencing the Bible's prohibition against homosexuality. The student, Tyler Chase Harper, wore the shirt during a past "Day of Silence" event at his campus.
Harper now has a lawsuit winding its way through the federal judicial system. Poway school district officials seem to have no qualms about promoting the beliefs of the GLSEN. Yet they readily deny opposing beliefs when espoused by a Christian student.
Closer to home, GLSEN chapters are on board to push this "day of silence" on high school campuses in Murrieta and Temecula.
Certainly, one wonders how academic studies are conducted when activist students refuse to answer questions in class because they are engaged in a silent protest. Past "day of silence" events have even included school faculty and teachers. Such faculty-sponsored activities reek of indoctrination.
Chalk up another loss for the pursuit of intellectual knowledge and another win for political activism.
Homosexual proponents have long claimed that private behavior in the bedroom is protected by privacy rights. Non-criminal activity between two consenting adults in the bedroom should remain private. So why do groups like GLSEN continue to inject private bedroom affairs into our very public classrooms?
This is just another example of a left-wing activist group attempting to eat its cake and have it too.
Not to be outdone, on April 14 Christian student groups will be countering the "Day of Silence" with their own "Day of Truth" to oppose the pro-homosexual agenda of groups like GLSEN.
While this "Day of Truth" will provide some welcome balance to the messages put out by left-wing pressure groups, it just further illustrates the sad state of affairs when our schools are utilized as platforms for distracting political activist groups.
Educators need to prepare our children for the world of commerce, engineering, medicine and law. Such crass political activism only diverts student attention away from important subjects such as American history, science, mathematics and literature.

Finally, something GLSEN and I can agree on. STFU Day!
GLSEN is very active in the schools in my town with full support of the idiot Superintendant.
Ick...and I was eating when I read this, too.
Black Eagle.
Cockroaches live where they are protected -- so do liberals, and that is why they have infested academia. They are well protected by politicians that pander to unions for their votes while, at the same time, not giving a damn about the functionality of education.
Typical, generic, socialist, liberal academia -- the bane of our youth.

An excerpt from "GLSEN Hails Historic Supreme Court Ruling in Lawrence v. Texas":
"NEW YORK - June 26, 2003 The Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network, or GLSEN, today hailed the U. S. Supreme Courts decision finding the Texas sodomy law unconstitutional, discriminatory and an unwarranted invasion of privacy. In a concurrent 5-4 decision, the Court overturned the basis for all remaining sodomy laws, and, according to GLSEN, these decisions will bolster efforts to ensure the safety of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) students.
Todays historic ruling affirms the equality of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people before the law and sends a powerful message to LGBT youth," said Executive Director Kevin Jennings..."
