RPG kills Hamas man as he tries to fire it
Jerusalem Post ^ | May 29, 2005 | Associated Press
Posted on 05/29/2005 9:33:44 AM PDT by Alouette
A Hamas member was killed in the Gaza Strip on Sunday as he tried to fire a rocket-propelled grenade at nearby Israeli targets, the Israeli Army said.
Palestinian hospital officials said the man was critically injured by shrapnel and later died of his wounds at a hospital in the Gaza town of Khan Younis. The man was at the Khan Younis cemetery, near the Jewish settlement of Neve Dekalim, when he hurt himself.
In a separate incident, in Gaza City, two Palestinians were hurt in a mysterious explosion. Palestinian police said they were investigating.

"Leading Afghan cleric shot dead"
BBC ^ | 29 May 2005 | BBC News - World Edition

ARTOC;E SNIPPET: "Gunmen have killed a leading cleric and opponent of the Taleban in southern Afghanistan, police said. Mawlavi Abdullah Fayaz was attacked by gunmen on a motorcycle as he left his office in the city of Kandahar.
Last week Mr Fayaz, a key supporter of President Hamid Karzai, had given a strong speech denouncing Taleban leader Mullah Mohammad Omar.
Taleban spokesman Abdul Latif Hakimi told AFP it carried out the killing but this was not independently confirmed.
Mr Hakimi said in a telephone call that Mr Fayaz was "preaching against the Taleban under the name of Islam".
An aide to Mr Fayez said the cleric had died on the way to hospital.
Mr Fayez was head of the government-appointed Islamic scholar's council and had condemned the Taleban last week at a meeting in Kandahar of about 500 clerics.
He said Taleban fighters were killing innocent civilians and the government should be supported for trying to rebuild the country.
Taleban insurgents have become more active since a lull over the winter.
Scores of militants and a number of Afghan and US-led coalition troops have been killed in the past two months.
Earlier this month, Mullah Omar said he would reject any offer of amnesty from the Afghan government.
Kandahar is a former stronghold of the Taleban regime that was ousted by US-led troops in late 2001."

Qaeda says Zarqawi leading anti-govt attacks-Web
May 29, 2005 DUBAI (Reuters) - Iraq's al Qaeda said on Sunday its leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was leading an offensive against U.S. and Iraqi forces in response to a crackdown on insurgents, according to an Internet statement.
"Our brigades and squadrons have embarked on an offensive led by Sheikh of the Mujahideen Abu Musab al-Zarqawi under his planning and supervision," the statement said. "This incursion is in response to the futile plan announced by Defense and Interior Ministers to seal off Baghdad," it added.
The group said last week that Zarqawi was wounded but issued a statement on Friday asserting he was in good health and was back leading operations in Iraq.
The U.S. military said on Sunday it believes Zarqawi has been wounded.
"In these hours your brothers in the Al Qaeda Organization for Holy War in Iraq are launching successive attacks on the Crusaders and their (Iraqi) tails," said Sunday's statement signed by the group's spokesman Abu Maysarah al-Iraqi.
It could not be immediately authenticated.
Iraqi forces launched their biggest security crackdown since the fall of Saddam Hussein with the start of Operation Lightning on Sunday, a sweep by 40,000 Iraqi troops who will seal off Baghdad and hunt for insurgents.
The crackdown comes after a sharp increase in suicide bombings and ambushes by insurgents who have killed around 700 people in the past month since a new Shi'ite Islamist-led government was announced.

Indonesian Christians Bury Their Dead After Market Bombing
By Chris Brummitt
Published: May 29, 2005
TENTENA, Indonesia (AP) - Tearful mourners on Sunday began burying the victims of twin bombings that killed at least 20 people in a crowded marketplace in a Christian-dominated town - the deadliest terror attacks in Indonesia since the 2002 Bali bombings that killed hundreds. Saturday's attacks came just days after Washington issued a fresh terror warning in Indonesia and closed its diplomatic offices across the nation. The blasts, in Christian-dominated Tentana on Sulawesi Island, were just 15 minutes apart.
There has been no claim of responsibility for the bombings, but suspicion has fallen on Islamic militants responsible for a series of attacks on Christians in Sulawesi Island since a peace deal in 2002 ended a bloody conflict that killed as many as 1,000 people.

Palm Beach County doctor faces terrorism charges
U.S. Department of Justice spokesman... declined to comment on the charge against Sabir.
...The charge against Sabir was posted on the Palm Beach County Jail's Web site after he was booked at 1:26 p.m., but later was removed from the Web site on orders of the FBI.
...Dr. Daniel McBride, spokesman for the Islamic Center of Boca Raton and a friend of Sabir, said Sabir works in the emergency rooms of two hospitals in Palm Beach County. "That's absurd," McBride said of the charge against Sabir. "He is a quality guy and a quality physician.
