This afternoon in a preview for tonight's Hardball on MSNBC at 7 EDT, Arizona Senator John McCain told host Chris Matthews that he will vote with the Democrats against exercising the so-called "nuclear option" to prevent the Democrats from using a filibuster stopping a floor vote on judicial nominees.
McCain said that he wanted to remind Republicans that some day there would be a "liberal president and a Democrat-controlled senate" and there would be no way for Republicans to stop the appointment of liberal judges as his reason for how he will vote.

McCain said that he wanted to remind Republicans that some day there would be a "liberal president and a Democrat-controlled senate" and there would be no way for Republicans to stop the appointment of liberal judges as his reason for how he will vote. Thats why, genius, we intend to change it. Then, depending how elections go, intend to change it back if needed.
See, I figured something out all by myself.

McCain said that he wanted to remind Republicans that some day there would be a "liberal president and a Democrat-controlled senate" and there would be no way for Republicans to stop the appointment of liberal judges as his reason for how he will vote.Umm, so what? It shouldn't require a supermajority to appoint judges. If we're dopey enough to elect a Democrat President and Congress, that's what we deserve. Besides, do you really believe, John McCain, that they won't exercise the nuclear option if they have to?

Republicans will never filibuster judges
en masse. Maybe one or two if they feel that the American people need to see the nominee's record and the nomination is being rushed through, but there is no way Republicans will "filibuster" over a dozen appeals court nominees.
We just don't work that way.

McCain said that he wanted to remind Republicans that some day there would be a "liberal president and a Democrat-controlled senate" and there would be no way for Republicans to stop the appointment of liberal judges as his reason for how he will vote. Accepting the fact that Democrats understand power and its use, John McCain should also realize that when and if such a circumstance (God forbid) comes about, the Democrats will have no hesitation, and with the press firmly in support, they will strip the Republicans of their Judicial Filibuser in a Texas heartbeat.
All the more reason to get as many honest, Constitutionalist, judges on the bench as possible - right now.
Once again, McCain demonstrates the "quality" of his mind.

LOL! I wonder if McCain will vote with the Demorats to kill the judicial filibuster at that time?

Nor should there be. It's wrong for both parties to filibuster judges.True, and even if it were, the Repubs haven't the cojones to do it. So the nuclear option is no risk to us.
To: mcg1969
Why is this considered the nuclear (Nucular) option?

McCain is quite right... albeit LOFTILY, and he should have considered
that the GOP majority is will be shorter lived if his type
keep throwing in with the democrats.

i never did understand how the dems ran the country virtually unimpeded by the pubbies since fdr, with a couple of years excepted.
and the pubbies have the majority, and they don't have the balls to deal with the dems.

My mother is er was a die hard McCain supporter... until now. McCain has taken the wrong advice, and has torpedoed his own chances of running in 2008. Those chances now join the Titanic, the Lusitania, and the Bismark in Davy Jones's locker. I hope it was worth it John McCain, because you have earned the contempt of the Republicans of Arizona for your very ill-informed choice.
