Gasoline Prices And Greed
The Chattanoogan ^ | April 14, 2005 | Don Drennon-Gala, Ph.D.

Posted on 04/14/2005 2:11:02 PM PDT by newgeezer

In February 2005, we were paying less than $2.00 per gallon for gasoline. Today, the gasoline prices are escalating at a faster rate than oil prices. We have gasoline stations taking surveys of each other and boosting their prices to match their competitors.

On this date, oil prices have plummeted to a price below $50 per barrel. This price has not been seen since February 2005. Why is it that our gasoline prices have not followed this trend?

During the Nixon era, the President placed a freeze on gasoline prices. These prices were much lower than what we are experiencing today. Gasoline marketers are reaping in the profits, as we, the consumers, suffer through this fraud.

There are many of us that have a personal view that this is a fraud, based on the gasoline prices failing to fluctuate with the market, or I should say, fluctuate downward with the market. Hence, the American public is the loser. We suffer for nothing more than greed.

President Nixon had the right idea. When greed becomes a national issue, you must put a cap on capitalism at the gasoline pumps.

There is little doubt that others who read this will feel the same way. Maybe it is time to send letters to the President and ask him to provide us some relief.

So Nixon is demonized by libs 99.9% of the time but if it's wage and price controls there after, Nixon all of a sudden becomes the ultimate authority?

During the Nixon era, the President placed a freeze on gasoline prices. And some of us remember the lines and closed stations immediately after.

Wage and price control ====> And later 17% inflation.

You have to wonder about the intelligence of some of these writers. A local reporter stated in an article that the reason that we have the highest gasoline prices in the state is because of our relative geographic isolation, when a large percentage of the gasoline for eight western states in refined in our county.

This guy is amusing. For example, the Chronicle of Higher Education asked, "Is academic freedom endangered by the way some colleges are reacting to the September 11 attacks on New York and Washington? Are the reactions on campus to professors who dissent different from the reactions to academic dissenters of the past?"

Here's his reply, and if anyone can figure out what he's saying you're better than I am at reading comprehension:

It is quite disappointing that those who hold the most prestigious degree, the Ph.D., are afraid to tackle the concept of accountability. Why? I am amazed. Once we address the concept and operationalization of accountability, then we can move forward to address the freedom of speech on university and college campuses. Until we have a meaningful and solid parameter, I believe there is nothing more to discuss.

We cannot ignore that we are responsible for the seed we sow in society through our method of sharing information.

I think he's saying the U.S. has some responsibility for the 9/11 attack. But who knows?

What unbelievable idiocy. What kind of people are getting PhD's today?

Hey "Dr" Don: those price caps led to widespread SHORTAGES you DOLT!

I s'pose Dr. Don, with his PhD., can't get a job and can't afford gasoline, so he wants those of us who are productive members of society to have a hard time finding gasoline, too.

Price controls always lead to shortages. Nobody's dumb enough to sell their products at below cost.

Gas peaked here at either $2.29 or $2.39 / gallon. It's now down to $2.04, with rumors of a few stations below $2.00.

I've been tapping into the Tactical Petroleum Reserve, 4 extra cans of gas I use when prices spike temporarily, so I avoided the worst of the price increase.
