I'm shocked he even went so far as to admit it was a scandal. But, of course his part in it was completely honest. The man wants us to believe he so stupid, he didn't even know his own son was neck deep in corruption. Stupid or Feckless, either way it makes Kofi unqualified even to clean floors at the UN. But, then the UN isn't qualified to run a floor cleaning service. They sweep to much dirt under the rugs.

I have to agree. We can only prevent UN corruption by pulling funding and support, and getting it th' heck out of the US.

The time has come for the U.N. to close its doors.
A new international organization -- comprised only of truly democratic nations -- will need to replace it.

Only countries like the United States and Britain had interdiction forces that could have stopped it. But he said they "decided to close their eyes to Turkey and Jordan because they are allies."
Isn't that short of admitting HE knew it was happening too? And as HEAD of the UN isn't HE responsible, When did HE request the help of the US to STOP it?...OH this is just toooo rich for me.

Kofi is right. We do bear part of the blame.
We listened to the dang 'allies' at the end of the first Gulf War and left Saddam sitting in his palaces laughing (with Kojo and Kofi) all the way to the Swiss bank. That is why we are partly to blame.
"Only the US and UK could interdict the Oil! Isn't that what we did and were roundly condemned by the UN?"
A lot of the oil went out through Syria. That chicken is just now coming home to roost.

U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan said on Thursday the United States and Britain bore part of the blame in the Iraq oil-for-food debacle by allowing unsupervised oil exports that Saddam Hussein exploited. EXCUSE ME?
It was the UN Oil-for-Food Programme, not the
"US Oil-for-Food Programme" or
"UK Oil-for-Food Programme".
And what was the percentage off the top that the UN was getting paid to MANAGE it????
Editorial comment: If I had cojones like that, I'd need a wheelbarrow.

Let me see if I understand this circular logic:
The US and UK are to blame for allowing unsupervised exports under a program which the UN was in charge of supervising.
In other words, The US and UK are to blame because they did not do the UN's job.
I wonder if Kofi realizes the argument he is using essentially says that the UN itself is irrelevant, and that the member states are to blame for not doing everything on their own.
