SAN FRANCISCO, April 13 (Reuters) - Apple Computer Inc.'s quarterly profit rose more than sixfold, paced by strong sales of its iPod digital music players, the Mac mini and new PowerBook notebook PCs.

Apple, based in Cupertino, California, said on Wednesday that net income for its fiscal second quarter ended March 26 rose to $290 million, or 34 cents per share, from $46 million, or 6 cents per share, on a split-adjusted basis.

Revenue surged 70 percent to $3.24 billion from $1.91 billion.

yay capitalism!!

Oh sush... Steve Jobs might hear you and donate some more to the Socialists.

(I'm a big Apple fan, and like what Steve has done for the company, but for the life of me I can't understand why he's still a liberal.)

can't help it. all tech companies are very liberal. But don't you love the fact that they have to acknowledge that capitalism is better every day. They do it when they consider themselves a business when they try to make a profit. They have to accept it when they make a new product or make something better to make a greater profit. Think of the DU having to acknowledge Bush is right, forced to accept the truth.

Apple sold more than five million iPod digital music players in the first three months of 2005.... Overhyped or not, 5 million people wanted one

I don't know...why do you say it is overhyped? It has a nicely designed interface, looks good, sounds good, and is well integrated with the iTunes application. I wouldn't mind if it were cheaper, but this is capitalism ya know.

I cannot overhype the product, or at least the concept behind it. It has indeed changed my life. I listen to audio books during my commute, and no longer is it wasted time. I have long working hours, and was too tired when I got home to listen to my music. This nicely designed product made it possible for me to renew my acquaintance with the music that I love.

I guess I would disagree with you, anyway. Wouldn't you say the Segway was the most overhyped product of the 21st century?

all tech companies are very liberal.

Steve Jobs must be fuming about all the recent publicity regarding George Bush's iPod.

Both the mini and iPod are great products. Apple deserves the profit.

I went to the local CompUSA today to buy an ink cartridge. The Mac corner of the store was bustling with activity. The PC side of the store looked dead.

Macs are a lot of fun...great products! I am an IT manager for a Radiology Department, and I use PC's a lot, and they work pretty well, fairly stable and all, but...they really aren't any fun.

Using a Mac is like eating spicy blackened chicken fajitas, and using a PC is like eating refried beans.

If I had a PC at home...to be honest, I just wouldn't really spend as much time at the computer!

With enough Tabasco Sauce, eating refried beans is a lot better than using Windows.
