Police say the 40-year-old electrician was shot. Officers are asking for the public's help.
Michigan City police early Tuesday morning responded to a call from a concerned citizen who found a person lying in a grassy area near the entrance to Greenwood Cemetery.
Sgt. Larry Litchford said the call came about 6:40 a.m. He said officers responding to the call found the body of Philip Lanier, 40, 811 York St., in an area near the front entrance of the cem
etery on Tilden Avenue.
Litchford said Lanier suffered a gunshot wound "to his body inflicted by an unknown suspect sometime late Monday night or early Tuesday morning."
Police would not say if Lanier had been shot at the cemetery or if he had been shot someplace else and his body dumped there. Litchford said police have no suspects or motive for the killing.
Police said Lanier was a family man with a wife and two children and that he had been an electrician working for a firm in Valparaiso.
"At this point in the investigation we are at a loss for a motive for this shooting," Litchford said, adding that Lanier had no police record of any kind, including traffic violations.
Litchford said police believe Lanier's wife heard her husband around 10:30 p.m. She said she went to bed early because she was not feeling well, but thinking she heard her husband entering the house, went back to sleep.
Upon waking up Tuesday morning, she discovered her husband was not home and did not know where he was until told of the discovery of his body by police.
While the police continue to talk to Lanier's family and friends, they have asked the public for help. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Detective Anthony McClintock at 873-1468, Ext. 341, during office hours or at 874-3221 after hours.
I saw a guy driving a hearse that was his personal vehicle too. His tags said: URNEXT
Luckily it was a temporary situation in my case. My dad manufactured them at the time.
LOL! Good ones!
When I was very young, I worked on a farm.
The farmer one day, with a typical straight face said:
"If it doesn't rain, then a drought's coming"
For about a week, I thought he had a crystal ball or somethin...
The headline is a hoot.

"Where were YOU at 8:34 pm next Tuesday?"
"There's a Polish cemetary across the street from Greenwood Cemetary."
What do they Polish???
Well, where else?
Usually I go for threads like this, but that headline is too easy to make fun of ...

Now THAT is convenience.
Almost as bad as this:
Newfoundland's Worst Air Disaster occurred today when a small two-seater Cessna 152 plane crashed into a cemetery early this afternoon in central Newfoundland.
Newfie search and rescue workers have recovered 300 bodies so far and expect that number to climb as digging continues into the evening.

"And it came to pass that night, that the angel of the Lord went out, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians an hundred fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses." 2Kings 19:35, KJV
Talk about a keen eye for the OBVIOUS. . .I would certainly hope that EVERYBODY found in the cemetary is dead. ;=)
Guy in a taxi wanted to speak to the driver so he leaned forward and tapped him on the shoulder.
The driver screamed, jumped up in the air and yanked the wheel over. The car mounted the curb, demolished a lamppost and came to a stop inches from a shop window.
The startled passenger said "I didn't mean to frighten you, just wanted to ask you something."
Taxi driver says "Not your fault Sir. It's my first day as a cab driver, I've been driving a hearse for the past 25 years".
It could have been worse, it could have been:
Man found dead in Wendy's Chili!
Did you pour him a stiff drink?
