11 illegal aliens caught, then released in Fairfax
The Washington Times ^ | 04/13/2005 | Gary Emerling

Federal authorities released 11 illegal aliens who were detained during a traffic stop in Annandale because immigration officials said they did not pose a threat to the public.

"The 11 passengers were processed and released," said Ernestine Fobbs, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency. "There were children involved, so it was better that we released them."

Authorities ordered the 11 Mexican nationals, three of whom are children, to return to immigration offices tomorrow for further processing. Ms. Fobbs said officials do not know where the illegals are in the meantime.

"It's up to them whether they come back," she said. "If they do not, they will be considered fugitives, and once we do encounter them again, they'll be removed from the United States. They stand to lose a lot if they do not appear."...

..."It highlights the problem that immigration violation is a federal offense and a state or county officer does not have the authority to detain them for a federal offense," Mr. Albo said. "You get your hands on them, and you have no authority to do anything."

A Virginia law enacted last year allows local law-enforcement officials to detain illegal aliens who are suspected of a crime, have been previously convicted of a felony or have been previously deported or left the U.S. after a conviction and illegally returned. Police also can detain illegals for up to 72 hours without bail until they are taken into federal custody.

Under the state law, there is no authority for a local law-enforcement officer to arrest a person solely for being an illegal alien.

Yes, and in Fairfax I suspect Mexicans are not particularly welcome! Why that family with a bunch of children were putting themselves at risk around here I can't imagine.

If the RICO suits can work, then do them. But, IMO, a jail cell should await those who aid and comfort the enemy! That would send a clearer message! I guess its easier to put pot smokers in jail, than building contractors and bizness folk...

Yeah, but if you're a legitimate U.S. citizen, you'll have to show a passport if returning from Mexico or Canada because our federal government takes border security "very seriously".

Pardon me while I try to find a remaining piece of the Constitution that Washington D.C. hasn't p*ssed on.

It is only a "threat" to most politicians if it is a threat to their reelection.

Shiite, you can't even get into Canada now, if you have any police record. That can even include TRAFFIC problems. The border guard does a quick computer check, and if he sees your name, you turn around...

What's a Constitution?

Just a point of fact here, Fairfax is just a few miles from DC. No need to place them on a plane. A bus token would do it.

Note to Islamic terrorists, as long as there are children with you, you're granted a free pass.

Someone needs to point out to all these "regular guys" who pat illegals on the head that tax dollars will not be able to support them and the illegals long term. The illegals will cost too much so less can be allocated for the pay of police, immigration workers, teachers etc.

Fairfax already has an overabundance and guess who will get food stamps first, them or needy older citizens who have paid taxes when working?

Uh Bush has nothing to do of what the NC Legislature does. But you knew already that, but decided to be a good little minion to put out false information.

I detect a slight repulsion concerning my opinions.

Such a disappointment.

Try this suggest suggestion, just ignore them and go your merry way and try to have fun a anyway.

That's what I plan to do.

I saw in the local news that the driver apologized for making an illegal u-turn. Through a translator, he said he was really tired because they had been driving all day and night for the last few days from Arizona. Honest mistake, move along...

Our imported serf class. Let in the masses of Mexico and and Central America that the racist Spanish ruling class is off loading onto us. A loser strategy for us.

A Border Patrol employee was interviewed about the Minutemen and said that protecting our borders should be left to the professionals.....12+ million illegals later....

Just a historical document that our politicians have decided to use for toilet paper.

When one of these released illegals commits a crime, the question will be 'why wasn't he deported in the first place'?

Simply ignoring the law by the Federal government undermines the rule of law in other areas.

Something is seriously wrong in the Senate, House, and White House when they REFUSE to protect our borders.

Calling the Minutemen in Arizonia 'vigilantes' was the height of ignorance.

Yup.

Otherwise ABC would run out of on air "talent".
