what does that mean? I must be dense today - lol
Go watch Robocop again and then tell me if you can't figure it out. :)
I have a friend who lived in one of the houses that was trashed by the tornado. By the Grace of God, him and his family lived through it. Insurance paid tens of thousands more than if he had tried to sell it.
He's a real surprising success story. Orphaned by 12, his older brother raised him and another brother. All three are married with kids, stable and happy.
How long since you left? You might be very surprised by the progress since your wise move.....
Growing up in Oklahoma I am very used to thunderstorms and tornados. I found it funny that during the weather reports in MI they would emphasize that there might actually be thunder in a storm. Guess I always assumed that is what happened during a storm. Now I can see alerting people to hail or tornados but the thunder thing always seemed strange to me.
Wow, all of the above. Forgot to mention corrupt city & mayoral departments bilking millions, but then that goes without saying. This is Detroit.
Love that tagline!
Five years and no regrets.
We've added a few new restaurants and adult gathering places since then. Many people comment that we are the "royal oak" for normal people.
"Well, at least he got that right, but it's from people like him and idiot white liberals."
This has got to be said.
When the vehemently anti-white racist Democrat Coleman Young ran for mayor of Detroit in 1974, the city was about 65% white. Even if every black voted for Young, his winning majority was not possible without the aid of the white liberal vote. Within five years after his election, the city had become 72% black, due to an unprecedented white flight, even including many of the ignorant white liberal fools who voted him into office. The rest is history, with "Mayor-for-life" Young winning election time and again afterwards due to his majority black constituents. And the city just fell down around their ears!
A greater example of "stupidity knows no bounds" cannot be found!
"Why is that, does everyone either have a government jobs or live in rent controlled buildings and receive tax credits instead of paying local and property taxes? Or is the whole city unemployed?"
About 65% of the people in Detroit are on some form of government assistance. The majority of those in Detroit who are employed have some sort of government job. The number of gainfully employed workers in the private sector is in the single digits. Taxes are high, particularly property taxes, because the Detroiters that vote for them aren't property owners and never have to pay them. And the businesses that locate there get tax breaks and other incentives, too. So the beleaguered few who do own houses and have jobs pay through the nose.
What a great place to stage a Super Bowl!
"The smart ones will stay in Windsor and only go to Detroit for the game."
H**l no! There won't be any "smart ones" at this year's Super Bowl! Going to Canuckistan just opens up another can of worms, what with that misbegotten place populated by an assortment of liberal crazies and America-haters who love to rip off and hassle "Imperialist" visitors!
Yeah, but they have the "Windsor Ballet."
Yeah, and they like to bleed the $$$ from the rest of the state. Makes us all SO happy. Detroit is a mega-sized leech.
Stay in Dundee, Michigan across the highway from Cabelas. It would only be about an hour's drive to Detroit. Plus Dundee has a nice, small-town atmosphere, complete with a Russell Stover store, Bob Evans, the usual fast food fare, etc.
Dearborn is still too close.
Especially watch your wallet if you live in Michigan outside of Detroit. Easier to tax those who can't vote the leeches out of office.
L8R
Aren't the Chador and Koran set largely in East Dearborn?
BTW, if anyone is coming to the Super Bowl next year, I have a house in Dearborn you can rent.
