MPBN spokespeople are taking an extremely condescending attitude and tone when discussing the decision to air the program featuring Buster the Rabbit's visit with a "gay" household with Lesbian Moms.
"Deborah Johnson" Spokeswoman for MPBN condescended to a local morning talk radio show (WVOM Bangor Maine)
During the call-in show that curiously enough featured NO CALLERS, spokeswoman Deborah Johnson answered a half dozen snow-ball questions from WVOM's ever-so-meekly-Conservative Ric Tyler...
She spoke down to Tyler and explained that; even though there MAY be some sort of notion that people where even mildy opposed to Buster, the "overwhelming Public response was positive."
O.k. Freep the above Poll, at present, the hegemonistic "Buster" is winning. 54% in favor to 40% not in favor
-Now, go do the right thing.

Maine PBS to broadcast controversial children's show episode
By Ryan Lenz, Associated Press Writer | April 11, 2005
PORTLAND, Maine -- Maine Public Broadcasting Network on Monday decided it would show an episode of a children's program starring a cartoon rabbit that became the focus of a controversy because it featured a child with lesbian parents.
PBS planned to distribute the half-hour episode of "Postcards from Buster" nationwide until U.S. Education Secretary Margaret Spellings publicly objected to Buster's visit with Vermont children whose parents are lesbians. The network decided to leave individual stations free to decide on the episode's merits and whether it was worthy of broadcast.
Programming officials in Maine made the decision to broadcast the episode after about 25 members of the public spoke at a Community Advisory Board meeting Saturday to discuss if the show constituted appropriate material.
"Public comment was overwhelmingly in favor of us showing the episode," said Deborah Johnson, a network spokeswoman, who in a release encouraged parents to make viewing decisions appropriate for their families.
The episode will air on April 16 at 10:30 a.m. The program generally airs on weekdays at 4 p.m. and on Saturdays at 8 a.m.
Supporters of the program have argued that the presentation of loving, same-sex families is exactly the educational mission PBS should undertake to prepare children to live in a diverse world. But opponents, who quoted from the Bible at Saturday's meeting, said it is wrong to present a sinful lifestyle to children.
The Rev. Douglas Taylor of The Jesus Party Inc. church in Lewiston characterized the episode as an insidious attempt to legitimize a new and immoral definition of family and part of a "homosexual agenda."
Taylor said he was disappointed with the network's decision and planned to organize a protest at the Ramada Inn in Lewiston to protest the airing.
"PBS needs to be careful here. The United States secretary of education has had very serious concerns about this subject, and she has threatened to use her power, her heavy hand of judgment, in not allowing federal funds to flow down," Taylor said. "They might have shot themselves in the foot just now."
Taylor plans to show a film titled "Gay Rights, Special Rights: Inside the Homosexual Agenda" during the gathering.

If folks REALLY wanted to let the PBS folks in Maine know how unpopular this move is, they'd hit them where it hurts: Pledge Week.
Instead of calling to pledge money, call to tell them you're sending the money elsewhere, or just keep it. A significant drop in pledges will send a message.
Another idea: don't turn on the show when it airs. Watch something else. Or, even better IMO, read your kids a book or play with them outside.

We allow very little tv in our home. It takes away from Homeschool lessons. "Postcards from Buster" was one of our favorites and allowed because of the educational value of it.
Now we DO NOT even turn on PBS. We read "Magic Treehouse" books. I can monitor what I read, but if PBS sneeks this in, where else might it happen?
I might sound a little paranoid but I don't think my seven and five year olds need to be exposed. If they were older, it would lead to a discussion. Now is too early.

You should have heard this arrogant, smarmy, condescending shrew, s'plainin' away the notion that people would retaliate at pledge time...
She basically said, "We didn't consider the financial impact, we did it for the people of Maine."
Well... I've seen the offices and these birds have got some awfully plush digs.
-And the closer you get to the environment they operate in, the more painfully aware you become of just how independant they are of the "Pledge Money".
-I think it's all gravy.. pays for their vacations and percs. I SOOO hope they suffer over this hegemonistic BARF. ;>

BUMP
The whole notion of showing it late at night is TOTAL BS the automatic recording services will just pick it up as if it was shown at regualr time and children will still see it.
The program should have a MA or H rating for mature audicences only. ANY show regarding homosexuals should NOT be viewed by children.
Homosexuality is only about recreational sex and thus not part of any material for children.

I listened to WVOM this morning, Capn. Ric Tyler is marginal at best and George Hale has got to be the biggest Democrat butt-muncher in radio.
Air 'Buster'?
Should Maine Public TV air a controversial episode of 'Buster' that shows lesbian parents?

To tell the truth, I just can't get very excited over 'the homosexual issue.' I say let gays have at it and if it has bad consequences for them then let's assume they'll have brains enough to figure it out for themselves; and if it has bad consequences for others (the sainted 'children'), then we can legislate a solution based on the actual, not theoretical problem.

"I listened to WVOM this morning, Capn. Ric Tyler is marginal at best and George Hale has got to be the biggest Democrat butt-muncher in radio."Cool! A fellow listener! Hey, how do you like "Leonard?"
As far as Ric Tyler, he is cowed by the presence of George Hale.
I revere Hale as a local Icon and veteran broadcaster, unfortunately he's also typical of the clueless dyed-in-the-wool Old Time staunch Maine Dems.
George Hale never makes a PEEP when they have left-wing loons on WVOM and Ric is too much of a "lickspittle" to say what's on everyone's mind. -I use the term "lickspittle" affectionately and with all due respect ;>
They are GUTLESS to -not- let callers at these ridiculous people.
To: Capn TrVth
Hey, how do you like "Leonard?"Initially I had the same reaction as when I first heard Rush: "This guy is a raving lunatic", but then I found that both were echoing my own thoughts on a lot of issues.
Ric Tyler is a typical middle-of-the-roader who doesn't want to offend anyone.
George Hale makes my blood boil. Being from away, I have to wonder how the man ever became a broadcasting "icon". He is hidebound and stupid and I never miss a chance to let him know it. His limited intelligence is shown by the fact that the only thing he can really talk about is sports and at that he's nothing but a boring cheerleader.
I email them at least twice a day and use ten different accounts to do it, so they think there's an army of folks who dislike George "Hale 'n Hearty".
