'Rabid' Fox
The Washington Times ^ | April 11, 2005 | John McCaslin

Posted on 04/11/2005 1:01:57 PM PDT by rightalien

CNN has another new network president, its fifth in four years. Jonathan Klein's mission: take back the million-plus viewers CNN has lost to Fox News Channel in fewer than four years.

Take ever-important prime-time numbers (7 to 11 p.m.), as examined by Nielsen Media Research -- CNN: 775,000 viewers (Anderson Cooper, Larry King, Paula Zahn, Aaron Brown); Fox: 2 million viewers (Shephard Smith, Sean Hannity & Alan Colmes, Bill O'Reilly).

Mr. Klein's assessment of his competition?

"They've tapped into an outrage that's lurking among a certain small segment of the population, mostly angry white men, and those men tend to be rabid," the new CNN chief tells Charlie Rose of PBS. "They tend to be habitual. They tend to like to have their points of view reinforced."

And CNN?

"And a, quote-unquote, 'progressive' or 'liberal' network probably couldn't reach the same sort of an audience, because liberals tend to like to sample a lot of opinions," Mr. Klein continues. "They pride themselves on that. And you know, they don't get too worked up about anything. And they're pretty morally relativistic. And so, you know, they allow for a lot of that stuff. You know, Fox is very appealing to people who like to get worked up over things."

Without fail, whenever you see GOP victory on a mass scale, the TV robots trot out stories about "Angry White Men" and the "Religious Right". This is 1994 Redux.

1994 was 1984 Redux.

The only reason they care about those million viewers is that they tend to be productive citizens that buy stuff, so advertisers are willing to pay (Fox) for them.

"Ooh... That makes me so angry..."

Don't worry. Be Happy. CNN has done hired themselves an bona fide know-nothing. Everything I read that quoted this new CNN honcho is exactly opposite from reality. Without facing reality, CNN is headed for a PBS-sized audience and they will probably, futilely request tax money to stay on the air. This is a good thing.

They call us angry, yet they are the maddest people I've ever had the pleasure of associating with.

I dance in Pasadena with loads of liberals. They can't stand my guts because I study the constitution and federalist papers.

When you call advocates of economic ruin, starvation, and mass murder "progressive" you haven't got a clue.

He doesn’t explain how he’s going to get all us idiotic white men to come back to watch his station.

Maybe, since we’re stupid and all, he’ll be able to trick us into watching the same old crap CNN’s been pushing for the last ten years. A new marketing campaign maybe, with some beer and guns.

He’s much smarter than us, so there’s no way we’ll be able to resist his wiles.

If that is Mr. Klein's assessment, FoxNews is in no trouble and will continue to increase their numbers.

OMG. Its 1994-95 all over again, "invoking the agnry white male" and how destructive they are. This is nothing but pure and unadultarated bigotry and bunk.

Now what IS true is that the above statement holds for liberals. It is THEY who do not like discussion and have to have their views reinforced. Its why they insulate themselves in adademia, the press, and government.

So lets see....

Fox viewers are angry white guys who apparently are as smart as CNN's liberal viewers.

Or maybe Fox viewers are just sick of news organizations that make up news (Jason Blair), make unfounded accusations (Eason Jordan), accomodate their reporting to the requirements of bloody dictators (CNN in Iraq under Saddam), and use forged documents for their news sources (Danny Rather)

Just maybe people are tired of the liberal propaganda slant being attached to the MSM's unbiased reporting.
