WASHINGTON - Charles Moose, the former police chief who led the task force to capture the Washington-area snipers, is now serving in the National Guard.
His wife, Sandy, said Moose is in San Antonio for the third month of a six-month active duty call-up as a major for the Air National Guard.
She told The Washington Post that Moose is on special assignment studying non-lethal weapons.
Moose resigned as Montgomery County police chief in 2003 amid criticism from county ethics officials that he was cashing in on his job by writing a book about the 2002 serial sniper case that made him a national celebrity.
Then the 51-year-old quietly vanished from the Washington area.
Almost two years later, Moose lives on the Hawaiian island of Oahu, where he has been riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle and otherwise enjoying life.
Gary McManis, vice president of Arlington-based Keppler Speakers, which books Moose's speaking engagements, said the former chief gives about 30 speeches a year to business organizations, trade groups and colleges and universities.
Nice non-work, if you can get it.
The Moose is loose. He seems a bit old to be in the Guard.
Bwahahahaha lead the search AWAY from the suspects is more like it
Taking time out from his busy career as a racist and from suing folks for discrimination?...
What a joke Moose is...He needs squirrel to complete the act.
signed Boris
imo
If the send him out to search for Bin Laden we can expect him to find lots of little old Norwegian ladies or something similar.
Almost two years later, Moose lives on the Hawaiian island of Oahu, where he has been riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle and otherwise enjoying life because he has been able to fraudulently market himself as the guy who caught the snipers.
The media won't report the truth because they are scared to ruffle the feathers of Jesse Jackson and his fellow liberal race alarmists.
"Moose lives on the Hawaiian island of Oahu, where he has been riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle and otherwise enjoying life"
Nope, no cashing in here.
If I was one of the victims families, I would take him personally to court for delaying the capture of the snipers so he could prolong the event in order to make money off it. How obvious is this?
No cop makes enough to do what he is doing now if they made an honest salary on their job alone.

HAve you ever been in the guard? 51 is not that old, many stay in until they are forced out.
While we can all joke about the incompetence of the sniper investigation, I think we should just be grateful that authorities were finally able to catch the AR15 that was doing all the killing.
Sherlock Moose is America's Inspector Clouseau.
He just appeared too old and out of shape.
Has that AR 15 ASSAULT RIFLE been convicted yet? I hope so, the thought of another murdering ASSAULT RIFLE on the streets is enough to keep me up nights.
Moose did NOT want the nation to know the sniper was a Black Muslim
You're never to old to be in the Guard......
