"Scouts' Honor" tells the story that the Boy Scouts did not want you to read: How the Grand Teton Council leaders ignored multiple warnings and hired a pedophile to help lead a summer camp.
The whistle-blower
His first week of Boy Scout camp, 14-year-old junior counselor Adam Steed marched into the director's office and said: "Brad Stowell is molesting Scouts."
Brad wouldn't do that, said the man behind the desk.

"How can it be right that Brad goes into boys' tents alone, gives them massages and touches them where he shouldn't?" the Pocatello teenager asked.
"We've talked to Brad," Elias Lopez said. "He promised me he doesn't massage below the waist."
Adam asked to go home.
Stay, Lopez said.
Adam asked to call his parents.
Don't tell them about Stowell, Lopez said.
Adam stomped out, frustrated. It wasn't the first time he had complained.

The adults wouldn't stop Stowell, so Adam decided to do it himself. With help from his little brother, Ben, he gathered a group of victims who told their stories and demanded someone call the police.

The Catholic church had the pedophile priest scandal; now the Boy Scouts are next. Makes you wonder about Leviticus 20:13.
Open up a jar of honey, put it outside, and you can hardly be surprised if it attracts a swarm of flies. You've got to be especially vigilant with any organization that caters to young boys. It stands to reason that pedophiles who like boys are going to be very interested in such organizations.
It wasn't just the scouts covering it up. In Idaho the Mormon Church are the largest sponsors of the BSA, a great thing that they do, but during the course of their cover up this issue went to the top of the LDS Church in Salt Lake City with no intervention from the top.
The North American Man/Boy Love Association (NAMBLA) would be proud of our Grand Teton Council of the Boy Scouts of America, LDS Church and a member of our judicial system who’s collective and purposeful failure to expose an upstanding, likable homosexual pedophile resulted in the molestation of dozens of children.

The Grand Teton Council of the Boy Scouts appears to be guilty of covering their rears from litigation at the expense of the rears of others, others being our children evidently recklessly left in the charge of one of the most reputable organizations in America. Two years ago the Supreme Court of the United States confirmed the Boy Scouts’ freedom of association clause that protects private associations from having to admit those that didn’t measure up to their moral code or standards. Since then, for exercising this right the Boy Scouts nation wide have become the number one enemy of the ACLU, lost millions of dollars in funding and hundreds of meeting places, an unfair price for a just and principled stand.

"When one file was finally released to the public last month, it revealed that before the Scouts settled the suits and paid the victims, Stowell had testified under oath that from 1988 to 1997 he molested at least 24 boys, many of them Scout campers. Another victim was 6 years old. Scout leaders testified they received warnings but went ahead and hired Stowell.
Stowell is now 32, married and living on the 800 block of Chantilly Lane in Idaho Falls. He works at an eastern Idaho recreational vehicle dealership, hasn't reoffended and was recently accepted to law school. He said he's changed and that this publicity is unfair." No one who has confessed and been convicted of molesting kids deserves to be given the power that lawyers have in our society. I wonder where he's going to law school?

Like Mathew Hale he will never get passed the bar. He has just been caught again (child porn and being alone with children, failing polygraph) and april 14 has a probation hearing that will hopefully put him in prison for a long time due to the new presure that sunlight is exerting on this case.
Our judicial system at the behest of powerful law firms and clients was complicit in concealing this failure of community trust from the light of day. Our courts by giving an extraordinarily light sentence to this pedophile also left the door open for an exponential growth of pedophilia, as victims sometimes become offenders themselves, Dr. R. Ruard Ganzevoort said in his book “Reconstructions” (The sexual violation of boundaries often results in extreme isolation. For some men, alternative ways of expressing their sexual yearning emerge that are easily subjected to condemnation (e.g., homosexuality, bestiality, pedophilia.) Anecdotally, A relative of mine was sexually abused as a teenager by a foster parent and he became a serial womanizer, an effort to draw attention to his masculinity, his wife wasn’t impressed.
How truly tasteless. (But very funny!)
Homosexuals demand to join the scounts because it helps them stay concealed.
Now there is no issue that homosexuals are not welcome into scouts.
The key is to no let the homosexuals say that these pedophiles are not homosexuals. That is pure bunk.

As a cultural warrior I am deeply disappointed in the LDS Church, the Boy Scouts and Idaho’s Judicial System in this matter as they are usually on the proper side in the culture war and are normally awesome allies. As a conservative I am in the minority in my belief that homosexuality is a Divine or Darwinian way of keeping faulty genetics from reproducing. This Darwinian or Divine probability of survival of the fittest is a possibility that our leaders have a duty to factor even if their faith trumps analytical thought that entertains theological paradox. The benefit of the doubt should come down if favor of the innocent as exposing our greatest treasure to the danger molestation is an unacceptable gamble.

Regardless of this long standing inferred then re-affirmed right of the Boy Scouts freedom of association, our Boy Scout leadership didn’t do their best to do their duty to God and their country, they didn’t obey the Scout Law; To help other people at all times; They may have kept themselves physically strong, but clearly were not mentally awake, and they experienced a lapse (perhaps unconsciously) at being morally straight. As stated in the Boy Scout Motto. These trusted local leaders coddled and enabled an admitted pedophile and gave him the keys to the candy store with full knowledge of this pedophile’s past wrong doings all the while praying for a “glass half full” future. A review of frequently cited studies of pedophile recidivism who molest young boys, indicates that up to 40 percent re-offend, unacceptable odds for a “glass half full" future.
I've been a leader in the Boy Scouts for 14 years, and if my son was being molested, I wouldn't wait for the law to dispatch justice!
