Some have proposed the addition of thousands of new Border Agents, and the deployment of Global Hawk surveillance drones to combat the increasingly burdensome tide of "undocumented residents" (illegal aliens) flowing across our borders-especially our border with Mexico.
I think it would be cheaper in the long run to construct adequate detention facilities near the border(s),so that those captured by the Border Patrol could be held for a few days (or weeks) until they could be "re-patriated".
I would also add more Hearing Officers, and have them set up shop right inside the detention facilities.
My home county did this (they called it "have gavel, will travel")and it was an enormous success: There was no need to assign deputies and vehicles to transport detainees to court (unless the detainee was actually going to trial).
Lawyers actually had greatly improved access to their clients. Case backlogs were cut to a fraction of what they had once been.Security,it goes without saying, was terrific !
The present system,in which the detainee is given an appearance ticket and released, seems much of the reason for the immigration problem: 85% of those so released never come back for their hearings !
Deal with the immigrant "forthwith": have him/her loaded on a bus for Mexico before the expectant can give birth, and before the border crosser can vanish into the American heartland !
It would cost a lot less than thousands of new Border Agents ,and /or fleets of Global Hawks, and would probably be a lot more effective.
This assumes,of course,we as a nation are willing to do something useful about the problem; that we actually consider it a problem.
I've heard it said-by people from the Left, the Right, and the Mainstream-Corporate America does not consider illegal aliens a problem:it considers them "bounty from Heaven" , and will fight tooth and nail to maintain access to low-cost,non-union labor...at taxpayer expense .
If this is true, and BOTH parties are dancing to this tune,we might just as well tear down the fences, send the Border Patrol home, and wait for the inevitable.
A classic and totally meaningless, stupid reaction. You have plenty of company.
It's the "Let Someone else solve the problem-Approach". Meanwhile the Problem has Changed.
Over Ten Million Illegals Are Already Here! You Idiots!
(Even that number,as high as it is, may be low.)
None of these "silly solutions" would solve anything. Period.
There are no prisons, detainment centers, busses, stockyards, toilet paper, staff, anything...sufficient to "handle" or solve the PROBLEM.
While you were waiting for the terrorists to explode a nuclear device, they took advantage of our "loopholes'" and flooded our country with zillions of poor aliens and now their operatives are using our legal system to defeat and confabulate our bewildered government officials at every turn as they try mightily to "sweep this problem under the rug".
CHECKMATE!
Finding a whipping boy? Won't help. Bush? Fox? Nah!
Still want to dig trenches? Erect barbed wire fences? Sign a Proclamation?
The war is over. We lost. And you. (Yes you Bug Eyes)you lost it for us.
Start penalizing employers and half the illegals will self deport.
Don't forget the illegal Central Americans. They are the next largest group of illegal alien invaders after the Mexicans
I'm a "Speed Freeper!" That means that you reply without actually reading the original post.
That way I make sure that the rest of you out there are paying attention!
BTW, my Mea Culpa is in post 29.
Mark
They run across I-10 every morning in El Paso.
I saw that! I must be a secondary Speed Freeper - I hit "reply" before I read the whole thread! My bad.
"They run across I-10 every morning in El Paso."
Er... eh... Peace and love. FReegards....
Like this???
What about the prison tent camp the Sheriff in AZ put up a few years ago ... now, that did not seem to be a very pleasant place to hang out.
"They do not contest deportation because this would mean they get fingerprinted and entered into a database."
For crying out loud!!!!! We don't even fingerprint all of them? What a joke! DNA, fingerprints, photographs, and we could even have ankle bracelet-enforced detention jobs for them. For goodness sake.
Tents might work if you have ankle bracelets. But they don't provide much protection. God knows what the more thuggish types would do to the ones who came to work. They should be shackled for their own safety, I guess. But the left would complain about marks on the wrists. That's how wimpy America has gotten.
Sad FReegards....
Your idea won't work. It makes too much sense. So those in power will automatically reject it. It is a good idea, though, and I would love to see it done. When I was under forty I thought of the same thing. Ship them back posthaste and bill the Mexican government for the costs of catching them and returning them. We could take it out of the foreign aid each year.
I'm becoming cynical about the Mexican economy. Perhaps we should let it go it's own way, without any propping up. Then after the commies take over and get unpopular, we oust the commies. It would be painful. Many would die. But if they drag down the USA, who will be their sugar daddy then?
Like your ideas too, but we need to eliminate the "Club Fed" concept and confine them at hard labor. Much less appealing. Most of those jackasses would welcome a few years at "Club Fed".
"Ship them back posthaste and bill the Mexican government for the costs of catching them and returning them. We could take it out of the foreign aid each year."
Now there's an idea! And ship them to the southernmost point of Mexico, AFTER getting DNA, mug shots, and fingerprints-- which we normally don't do right now.
I spoke too soon. The BP *might* fingerprint them but they are not entered into the Justice system in the sense that if they contest immediate deportation (which is rare) and lose they can be sent to prison if nabbed a second time crossing over.
Then you must have skipped 3rd grade as the following EO's for example are (or were) law and do not pertain exclusively to the Executive Branch of the Federal Government.
Executive Order 12566 (Safety belt use requirements for Federal employees).
Executive Order 12561 (Delegating certain functions of the President relating to Federal civilian employee and contractor travel expenses).
Lastly and this is an easy one, Executive Order 12564 (Drug-Free Federal Workplace)
As to the Treasury and 'impounded' funds.
For one, if the 'sanctuary zones' like NYC, Chicago and LA were declared illegal - which they are in fact to begin with but more importantly enforced by the Federal Government, withholding funds would not be illegal. Countless 'strings' are attached to federal funding to cities and programs. Issuance or withholding funding as a condition of compliance with Federal Law, regulation and or statute pertaining to said funding is a 'no brainer' (that is, unless one skipped 3rd grade).
BTW, you might want to read about an EO issued by RR that redefined 'Federalism' and how Clinton was going to 'slightly' revise it. That is until Congress found out the contents and went into an uproar. BJ's EO would have given him unheard powers as POTUS. For instance he could have declared Marshal Law at the snap of a finger. Thankfully do to Congress he never signed it.
