February 1, 2005, Introduced by Reps. Virgil Smith and Murphy and referred to the Committee on Judiciary.
A bill to amend 1931 PA 328, entitled
"The Michigan penal code,"
by amending sections 224 and 227 (MCL 750.224 and 750.227), section 224 as amended by 1991 PA 33 and section 227 as amended by 1986 PA
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT: Sec. 224. (1) A person shall not manufacture, sell, offer for sale, or possess any of the following:
(f) Any sharp-edged, multibladed device, capable of being carried on the person, with blades that are, or can be, locked into place for use as a weapon.

I was about to write a parody news story about a bill to ban knives, I didn't have to. Virgil Smith and Mike Murphy actually did the real thing. Both are Democrats.
The bold part in caps and areas crossed out are the proposed changes to the law. The rest of the text is already law.
This bill isn't going anywhere, but it just shows the absurdity of some bills. I'd laugh if it wasn't in my own state.

These items can be purchased in many places. Mastering the throwing technique is a major time commitment. California has a fairly large Chinese population. They outlawed almost every traditional Chinese edged weapon in the same set of laws that governs firearms.

Mine was similar to this Cub Scout Knife. Note the dangerous locking blades.
