Spotters on the border
The Washington Times ^ | 4/7/2005 | Editorial

There aren't many border-control success stories these days, but Arizona's Minuteman Project is quickly becoming one. For observers wondering how average Americans can contribute meaningfully to homeland security, the Minutemen are becoming something of a model. If a comparison to Britain's World War II civilian spotters seems far-fetched -- the spotters were private citizens, often over the age to serve in the military, who watched for Nazi planes and helped British forces score some considerable successes -- the difference is one of circumstance. That's something for President Bush and the open-borders crowd to think about.

Which of thess two national borders is on the frontier of a superpower, in wartime? Which belongs to a tiny country?

Americans are starting to figure out this travesty. We're shoveling hundreds of billions of dollars at "Homeland Security" post 9-11, yet we have a virtually unguarded border. Bush won't even build a basic security fence like the one at bottom, or fund 2,000 more badly needed Border Patrol agents.

This is clearly dereliction of duty on the part of our president. He wants cheap illegal alien labor, more than he wants to defend the nation in wartime.

U.S. Constitution Article 4 Section 4:

"The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government,

and shall protect each of them against Invasion;"

The present number of Border Patrol agents can secure the border, if we build a simple fence on the right of way the government already owns.

You're right, they can't hold a flood back with their bare hands. But the world's greatest economic power could build a simple and effective pair of fences like the one on the bottom of the picture for a tiny pittance, probably less than the cost of one nuclear submarine, for example.

But Bush won't do his clear duty, under Article 4 Section 4 of the Constitution.

A fact which incresingly tempts me to become a single-issue voter.

I'm not there yet, but I'm not getting any less pissed off either.

You know I agree with you. The threat to security is awful enough by itself- then, you factor in the social disruption, and costs, it looks even worse. I say again, this is going to be an issue, whether or not the talking heads on TV or the politicians want it to be.

Presidente Arbusto says they are vigilantes. Vigilantes won't get nice CD helmets.

It might be an issue, but our politicians will never build that fence. Never. They will whine a wring their hands, but they will never do their duty under Article 4 Section 4.

But when terrorists walk into the USA and leave their footprints going back to our unguarded border, I refuse to let them say "We had no idea! We thought there was already a fence there!"

Let the record be clear: our borders are wide open.

"My nominally Democrat wife is incensed about illegal aliens."

At family get togethers, the subject of illegals is the only political topic not banned. We're split politcally (half liberals/half conservatives), and it's the only issue we don't argue over.

I was in Reynosa this week and watched the local Mexican TV station. They had pictures of the Minutemen and focused on their guns and holsters almost exclusively. I don't know what they were saying, but it can't help but scare the hell out of em.

That was to back up Fox's purposeful misrepresentation of the MMP volunteers as "migrant hunters" out on safari. That so many Mexicans believe that illustrates how they assume the lawlessness that plagues their country (and their Southern neighbors) is allowed here.

That attitude "migrating" North brings about the reality, IMO.

The Minutemen are showing us not only how to seal our borders and protect our national security, they are demonstrating how we can take back our country from the political establishment.

For me, the Minute Men are like a dream come true. I am going to make a contribution to them tonight, and pray that God will keep them safe from our own politicians and news media.

God Bless you, my FRiend. I have two or three friends like you here in Cochise County, and I have a fair idea of what you're up against.

It is neither pretty nor easy, but you haven't let that stop you from doing the right thing.

So again, thanks. It's not much to offer, but it's all I have right now.

What he meant was that we as communities should get busy and help get the illegal Mexicans settled into our community and if anyone disagrees, whap them across the kisser.

Yep, I'm sure you're right. I wonder how many of them we are each going to be assigned to take in and raise. LOL
