Top federal Liberal officials forced an ad executive to secretly divert more than $1 million to the party's Quebec wing in exchange for sponsorship contracts, the executive told the Gomery inquiry in politically explosive testimony that had been kept under wraps by a publication ban that was finally lifted Thursday.
The allegations of a longstanding corruption could give the opposition

I thought the headline said "Abscam" and it reminded me of growing up in Philly back in the day. Though I can't exactly remember what it was other than some grainy videos of arabs taking bribes. help from a philly freeper??????

This may force Harper's hand.
He doesn't want to force an election yet as he believes that the Conservatives are not ready.
But if he fails to call the government to account on this one, he can be seen to be acquiescing in the misconduct and pusillanimous about going to the electors.
His party has to stand up and be counted and let the chips fall where they may.
If the Bloc and the NDP, who also are not ready for an early electio, are confident that the Tories won't force a non-confidence vote then they are in a golden position to undermine the Tories by voting against the government and letting the Tories be seen to be supporting a corrupt regime.

The liberal tack seems to be established...they are saying that the evidence given under oath in the Gomery hearing is not "facts".
They keep saying Martin is clean because he struck the Gomery commission .......I guess he did but with the full knowledge that he could contain it.
Annie and Brison are running a tag team on fending off the allegations by wrapping themselves in the flag...it was all done for Canada Laughing
They both have dropped the "parallel group" defense from yesterday and are now saying the witnesses at the hearing are liars..
With thanks to WLM.

I just added "adscam" to the keyword index- click on it to see all the articles we have linked. It's a cesspool.

Your tact is commendable - lots of us would say they have them firmly - and seemingly permanently - ensconced in their rectums!
Hopefully now with no hockey on the tube a few more will start paying attention - LOL!

The CBC's really not that bad. While their editorial slant is definitely to the left, they do generally report the facts in an unbiased manner. I listened to the CBC radio news on the way home and they gave a pretty good summary, not sugar coated, of the Gomery commission testimony.

That money belonged to us, the taxpayers. I would like to know my portion so that I can claim the political donation on my income tax return.

To clarify on my comment: The CBC's news coverage is not that bad, in terms of presenting the stories in a balanced manner. And overall, in spite of being a big bunch of lefties, they do seem to delight in tweaking the government, whatever the current gov't is. The news program "The 5th Estate" has broken many stories over the years that were unfavorable to the government.

LOL!! I have satellite internet, my extensive library, and my eager bride - all set in a staggeringly beautiful mountain valley in B.C. Now if it wasn't for the taxes and the medical care you might be able to get a touch of envy going for other posters.
Was for me, with my wife, your story would have to include a large Lottery winning and a selection of super powers.

The CBC's news coverage is not that bad,I'm afraid I have to disagree with your police work there YYZ.
Not that bad as compared to what?
Did you hear Marylou Findlay's interviews tonight on 'As It Happens"? The way she frames her questions, and the tone of voice changed markedly depending on 'Who' she was talking to.

Newsflash to Stephen Harper: I personally spoke to two hard working regular Canadians yesterday about the revelations.
Both responded..."Whats the Gomery Inquiry?"
We need time for the people to understand what has really happened.

I don't really consider AIH as news coverage, more like editorial content. I didn't hear it tonight - I generally only hear it if I happen to be driving home after working late, or on my way to play badminton, and I don't have music on - so who was she interviewing?

Happen to think there's any co-relation between what you've said and the CBC being far and away to the left of any government we've ever had?
"Whats the Gomery Inquiry?' - We need time for the people to understand what has really happened." - fanfan
A 6-7 week election campaign ought to be lots of time - don't forget, it only took the media the final 2 weeks last June to spin matters enough to save Martin's job.
