Just heard a radio talk show discussing the fact the Vatican has given Cardinal Law, he of the Boston pedophile scandal, a prominent and honoured role in the Pope's funeral...assuming this is true and I gather it must be
who is the lame brain who thought that up......
someone is suggesting all Americans should boycott that mass to give the Vatican a message
it seems Rome doesn't think the covering up of buggering small boys is problematic.....
as it is Law is getting away with murder......with a cushy position in Rome
why would you want to detract from the focus of the day by making a lame decision like that or did John Paul II expressly ask that Cardinal Law do this, so then what does that say about John Paul II

VATICAN CITY – Pope John Paul II today accepted the resignation of Cardinal Bernard Law of Boston and appointed an interim leader.
The cardinal had been under intense pressure to resign. He is the highest-ranking church figure brought down by the scandals embroiling the American church. He had offered to resign in April, but the pope refused at that time.
"I am profoundly grateful to the Holy Father for having accepted my resignation as archbishop of Boston," Law said in a statement released by the Vatican.
"It is my fervent prayer that this action may help the archdiocese of Boston to experience the healing, reconciliation and unity which are so desperately needed."
"To all those who have suffered from my shortcomings and mistakes, I both apologize and from them beg forgiveness."
Bishop Richard Lennon, an auxiliary Boston bishop, was appointed temporary head of the archdiocese.
Law, 71, remains a cardinal and could be named to another position in the church hierarchy. He will be eligible to vote in papal elections until he turns 80.
The Rev. Chris Coyne, spokesman for the Boston archdiocese, said "the resignation of Cardinal Law as archbishop of Boston is just one more moment of sadness over the whole timeline of great sadness and grief that has touched the archdiocese beginning with the monumental tragedy of the abuse of children by priests and the failure and flaws of the administration to deal adequately with those moments of abuse."
"Thank heaven," said David Clohessy, director of the national group Survivors Network of Those Abused by Priests. "I hope there will be thousands of Boston Catholics and hundreds of Boston survivors who will feel better as a result."
Lennon offered prayers for the victims and vowed "to work towards healing as a church and furthering the mission of Jesus Christ within our community.
"I am thankful for the good works that his Eminence Cardinal Law accomplished in his service to us as archbishop and for the friendship that I have enjoyed with him," Lennon said in a statement. "I ask for prayers for him as he continues his life in service to the church."
Lennon faces a huge challenge. More than 400 people are suing the archdiocese. Law has taken steps to allow it to file for bankruptcy protection.
He will not be presiding over the Pope's funeral Mass. He will be required as the dean of that basilica to offer that local basilica's memorial Mass.

Here are the facts. Starting with the funeral mass tomorrow, there are 9 days of masses for the repose of the soul of JPII. Each mass honors some aspect of the universal church. The 4th mass, on April 11, honors the 4 patriarchal basilicas of Rome (that is, St. Peter's; St. John Lateran; St. Mary Major; and St. Paul-Outside-The-Walls). The cardinals have assigned Cardinal Law to be the main celebrant for this mass. He is the cardinal-priest in charge of the Basilica of St. Mary Major. Surely the cardinals could have chosen a cardinal-priest in charge of St. John Lateran or St. Paul.
For an atheist/agnostic who doesn't disparage any religion you seem to be on a mission.
It's speculation, if it's even true.

listen honey I listened to Catholic after Catholic call into the radio talk show expressing disbelief that the Vatican would be so insensitive as to have Cardinal Law presiding over anything to do with the Pope's funeral - at minimum why would you want to do ANYTHING that would detract from the funeral, in the media or elsewhere, why would you want to bring that nasty blight to light now...
because mark my words, guess what is going become the focus of attention tonight.......unless Cardinal Law suddenly get the hook
I was listening to the Motts on CFRB, they were talking about it for an hour and the next talk show, John Moore, was going to continue discussion on the same topic and I know Michael Coren, the conservative Catholic host on at 7:00 pm is going to continue the discussion (he is one of my favourites, he tells it like it is] and he will express as he has already his disgust for Cardinal Law.....
ok the talk show hosts the Motts did get their information right, now that I see what is going on, I apologize I didn't understand the whole context
they didn't say he was doing mass at the big funeral, they say he was doing one of the other massses which was still considered to be quite an honour, of course, and they were asking people and mostly Catholics called in if this was right or not, that Cardinal Law should have any role in the mourning of Pope John Paul, and it was a Catholic who said having Law do a mass was an insult to all Americans and they should boycott his mass or all Catholics who think Cardinal Law was not properly punished for his actions should boycott the mass to send a message,

I have a major problem with Law too. I've been following your posts regarding the Pope and the Catholic religion. They have, for the most part, been disparaging and disrespectful. You have plenty of ideas on how to "fix" the Church. If you are an agnostic/atheist as you claim why do you care what the Church or the Pope does? You claim that you do not disparage any religion but that is the common theme of all of your posts concerning the Pope and the faith.
