FreeRepublic Pledges (Vanity)
TheHound

Posted on 04/06/2005 6:50:29 PM PDT by TheHound

Why do these pledge periods have to take so long? For a measly $66,000, I would think the pledge period would only last about a week. If everyone who used this cite for longer, in a year, than they do reading a magazine subsciption, pledged the price of a magazine subscription, I believe the pledge amount would be met in about two days. I certainly hope the day never comes when I have to see "Cialis" ads blinking on the right side of the FR page so they can pay for bandwidth!

Thanks again for your wonderful speech at the Fayetteville Freep.

I forgot to ping you to my #19.

Hey, I got pretty beat up, during Schaivo, not banned, but pulled. If there is any other cite, even close to this one, where I can get just about an unlimited amount of info on just about any subject, from people who really know what they are talking about; where I can read a synopsis of just about every news story out there; and where I can discuss my thoughts with other conservatives on those subjects and stories as I can on FR, then perhaps I might spend less time here. If you know of such a place, please let me know.

The bottom line is that there were Major Flame Throwers
on Schiavo threads and the ones who complained to Admin Moderators were banned.

I know one freeper who emailed me who was banned by someone who complained about him. IMHO he really did not do anything in-appropriate, he is a stand up guy pro Military pro conservative and was banned he said he will never come back

I did not even bother commenting on Schiavo it was truly and Over-Kill thread, many were really sick of how many threads were posted daily about it...

Exactly. Folks on all sides gave as good as they got. But they still used JimRob's bandwidth. So I can understand people being angry at other posters, but I don't understand how that translates into being angry at FR or JimRob.

I'm sure he and the other moderators did their best. But they can't police every thread all the time, so mud is always going to get flinged, especially on a subject that affects so many people in such an emotional way. I certainly wouldn't have wanted to try and keep all those threads civil.

We can always decide that we're not going to converse with certain posters. I think everyone here knows of a few screen names they intentionally avoid. But that's between the individuals and not between a poster and FR. And if everyone decides to penalize JimRob financially for the actions of others, then one day we may try to log on and find that FR is no longer here.

Once again, y'all are free to tell me that I'm being naive if you so wish.

I'm a little disappointed in the pace of this Freepathon, too. My attitude is that the least I could do is contribute what would be roughly the equivalent of a delivery subscription to a "mainstream" newspaper. This site is worth far more than any newspaper or other printed publication.

I read a lot of the Schiavo threads and didn't reply, either. The posters really went after each other's throats in a lot of them, and I hated to see it. Maybe FR should have turned into a Schiavo-free zone like Lucianne did.

I agree. I've been a monthly donor for several years and always kick in some bucks during the FReepathon for grandkids or greatgrandkids. This quarter I even kicked in 10 bucks to move Missouri up a notch. (hey, it worked) lol

Maybe it has something to do with longtime Freepers being called Nazis, pro-death, etc.

Just a guess.

I would venture to say your guess is pretty much on the mark.

Exactly...I don't know if people were punishing Jim Rob and FR as much as they were p'od at the Admin Moderators
and how they were treated possibly by being banned

It put alot of bad tastes in people's mouth therefore they are not donating because they are not on the site...

I think it was the worst thing to happen to FR in a while.

It was Earth-splitting. Donations won't roll in if people are being told to "cough it up, NOW!" or called "dirtbags" or "Freeploaders" just because they signed in between FReepathons.

Jim encouraged it.

It was not the same kind of flame throwing on all sides.

It has obviously affected this site in disastrous multi-faceted ways and many are in complete denial about that fact, forever perhaps.

I stayed away from many of the Schaivo threads and only made a couple of posts on the WPPFF thread, but now I feel like I was silent too long.

I stayed away from ALL of the Shiavo threads and rarely posted on the WPPFF thread - I think you are correct.

banned by someone who complained about him

I rarely call people liars BUT I saw whiners leave FR, not banned. I have had posts pulled (rightly so) but never banned. I don't believe someone was banned for their comments unless they were attempting to disrupt JIM ROBINSON'S site. I'm from Missouri so you have to SHOW-ME.
