Why do these pledge periods have to take so long? For a measly $66,000, I would think the pledge period would only last about a week. If everyone who used this cite for longer, in a year, than they do reading a magazine subsciption, pledged the price of a magazine subscription, I believe the pledge amount would be met in about two days. I certainly hope the day never comes when I have to see "Cialis" ads blinking on the right side of the FR page so they can pay for bandwidth!

Thanks for posting the "PREVIOUS FREEPATHONS" table, as I requested. I think people need to remember that FReepathon completion times do vary. It's easy to get spoiled by a one-day or five-day FReepathon.

They usually last a week to ten days. Some have gone on for up to two weeks.

This fundraiser has barely gone on for a week.

It should have read:

Would you like to spend the next 4 decades or so hooked up to a machine that keeps you 'alive' artificially while you are in a PVS with zero brain waves? IOW brain-dead with no chance of ever recovering to live even a semi-normal kind of life? And it was your expressed wish never to have such a horrible fate befall you?

Or this way:

Are you in favor of single issue death threat making fanatical mobs tearing up the Constitution, demanding governors and Presidents take dictatorial powers and the law into their own hands? Lynching any judge that disagrees, rolling down the streets in NG tanks with guns blazing and killing any sheriffs or other law enforcement officials that stand in the way?

It had everything to do with the election -- and our previous record was the first Freepathon after 9/11.

The October 2004 Freepathon raised $60,000 in 1 day, 2 hours, 39 minutes ($37.52 per minute).

The December 2001 Freepathon raised $80,000 in 4 days, 7 hours, 58 minutes ($12.82 per minute).

The October 2000 Fundraiser* raised $50,000 in 4 days, 4 hours ($8.33 per minute).

*Not a Freepathon -- a special fundraiser for a server upgrade to handle increased traffic prior to the November 2000 elections.

Do you happen to know what the per hour donation rate was 'after about 136 hours' for the Q2 2003 and Q2 2004 FReepathons?

Actually, I did make a mistake - that wasn't it, but nobody's caught it apparently, so I'll fix it myself. For a quarterly fundraiser, the monthlies should be multiplied by 3, to give a quarterly total. As for your comment, whether donations wind up being less than last time, we'll have to see, but at this point, we are not on a pace to match the last 2Q fundraiser.

Well, no, I'll answer the original question. I noticed something this morning, as I was putting together my original post - maybe you can help me explain it. According to this page, FR has an estimated monthly budget of $17,600, which works out to $52,800 per quarter. But the fundraiser is for $66,000. What's the extra $13,000 for? Is it profit? If it's profit, then you and I can hope for a "not-for-profit" fundraiser, but it's obviously not in the cards.

I see it as a waste of my own time, and a dilution of my stated and intended point.

Your question to me can best be answered by those much more enlightened on the matter, which now seems to be your objection. So I'll defer, and refer you, to those in the know. Hopefully one will weigh in and have your answer.

That's fine. I'm sure that not everyone is privy to the details - I'm certainly not. I merely noticed this as I was trying to figure out whether the recent unpleasantness was having an effect or not. I'm sure donors would want to know where their money was going, so I don't think it's an improper or illegitimate question. Do you?
