Editorial: Assault on courts/'Out of control' is misdirected

The Terri Schiavo case is morphing into a case against the federal judiciary, a frightening proposition that makes the Republican Party seem a wholly owned subsidiary of right-wing religious radicalism.
From conservative members of Congress and right-wing Christian activists has come a string of angry condemnations for the federal courts. They've been accused of murdering Schiavo or ordering her "cold-blooded" execution. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, who threatened retribution against the courts over Schiavo, has now asked the House Judiciary Committee to review the entire case and "look at an arrogant, out-of-control judiciary that thumbed their nose at Congress and the president."
So just who are these "out-of-control" judges? The group would appear to include the entire U.S. Supreme Court, including conservative icons Antonin Scalia, Clarence Thomas and William Rehnquist. None wanted to get involved with Schiavo. It would also include the entire bench of the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

No, the case against the courts was there long before Terri Schiavo. In fact, it is renewed every time a body is found after an Amber Alert.

I guess all those attacks on Bush's judicial nominees don't count...

I guess this is why the GOP controlled Congress has voted to remove funding restrictions on abortions in overseas clinics. Gee which right wing religious radical voted for that?

If the shoe fits. . .
Seems to me they ARE guilty of turning away when they could have done something to stop the murder/killing of Terri Schiavo. All they'd have had to do was say: Put the feeding tube back in while we do a "de Novo."
So would that have been that hard to do?
We are judged by what we do AND by what we do not do when we have the power to do.
But they probably don't quite get it. I thought there was a minority opinion on the Supreme Court. If so, who were the Supremes with the minority opinion?

Hey! No fair! What about us Libertarians? Why do Republicans always get all the good press when it comes to liberal editorials?

Now the angry radicals seek to sweep aside the judiciary that thwarted their Schiavo agenda. Will the American people -- Republican and Democrat, Independent and Green -- allow it to happen? Indeed, we will demand it.
