For many, Schiavo's life was an inspiration

GULFPORT - In an emotional tribute at a memorial Mass, Terri Schiavo was praised Tuesday night as a remarkable woman, an inspiration to others and someone whose name will become a rallying cry to those who feel her death was an injustice.

''I am sorry, though, that pure love alone was not enough to keep you from harm,'' Schiavo's sister, Suzanne Vitadamo, told a crowd of more than 800 that overflowed and spilled outside the sanctuary of a St. Petersburg church Tuesday night.

''You are telling us not to be sad,'' Vitadamo said in a message to her sister, ``but to be happy because you are now free. You are a remarkable woman. Your smile brought us great joy. You have shown the world what perseverance and determination are all about.

''I miss you,'' Vitadamo said. ``We will forever be grateful to you.''

Give it a rest.

Grow up.

If growing up means lacking civility, such as you do, then no thank you. If growing up means refusing to understand the meaning of "inspiration" and "hero," then no thank you again.

When you persistently dehumanize Terri, you do the same thing to yourself and undervalue your life.

Paying attention to Terri's fight has taught me to value my own life infinitely more, to look at other human beings with yet more value.

And my eyes have been opened to the fact that our society does not value life as much as we thought we did.

That is so wonderful. I know Terri's parents were just touched by such a beautiful gesture on the part of that vet.

My heart goes out to them.

Dave - she is dead. You're side won. Can't you just be happy and satisfied with that? Sigh.

How about no courage, too. It seems appropriate-- call it the Wizard of Oz Trifecta.

I agree. There will be no written offer of anything from this old gal. Let them murder and steal for my body parts.

Can you be just a little more hateful?

Why not mention Terri's bodily functions, what happens during an autopsy? Pictures if you have them.

It really lets us see your character, compassion, concern for others, politeness, etc.

Guess they now feel they can tell us who or what to be inspired by. Wonder why they have nothing better to do than monitor our language?

"I know this sounds pretty dark"

I think you're still putting too much of a "happy face" on it...;)

I'd bet it's darker than any of us could even imagine since we don't think "that way".

Remember, we must not embarrass them, but they are free to embarrass, chastise, mock, and ridicule.

Ignore them, they are not worth the energy. They will never understand what we are upset about, they will not join us in the efforts to prevent this nonsense from occurring again.

You see - they do not see a problem with the laws being changed to allow SOME to do away with OTHERS. It is almost like talking to liberals.

At least the "America is Nazi Germany" posts have died down.

One doesn't have to see "America as Nazi Germany" to note the Nazi-like manner in which certain individuals, groups, and institutions behaved in the Schiavo case.

Pat Buchanan recently wrote an article entitled In the Schiavo Case, Elites Reveal Similarity to Nazi Germany that should be food for thought. Since I'm no longer a Pat Buchanan fan, as I was during the 1970's and 1980's, I won't post it on this board, but it's available here: http://www.humaneventsonline.com/article.php?id=6949

Try this for a point. I am sick and tired of the B.S. that this whole Terri Schiavo affair has turned into. It is so easy to claim the moral high ground and dwell in one's own self righteousness by claiming to be in favor of a "Culture of Life." What a crock of dung. At least 50% of you self righteous types would not have given a damn about this woman had she been black, or gay or a Muslim. You cry for TS, but ignore those who are killed as the result of a a troubled teen anger. What about the girls who were kidnapped, raped and killed recently. Or even those killed as the result of drunk driving accidents. Where is your righteous indignation there. Are these deaths any less meaningful?
In the big scheme of life Terri Schiavo's death means no more and no less than those others who have died in the time that the circus in florida took place. The only difference is that it is so easy for you to pick a good guy and a bad guy, it is black and white. Put the tube back in and problem solved. You can feel so good about yourself afterwards. And that is what matters. It is all about how people can continue to feel so wonderful about themeselves because they took the easy choice in an issue that did not deserve the mass hysteria that it created. Your feelings of self righteousness are once again secure. Meanwhile, in the real world. People are dying everyday. And on a massive scale. Some in ways that make TS' death look like the easy way out.
The Terri Schiavo case was the focal point of a freak show. but go ahead and feel good about yourselves because you chose an easy answer to a small issue. And please, continue to ignore the real issues that threaten life.

Under the statue the "response" must be demonstrable. In other words repeatable. Terri's "reponses" could not be demonstrated and were not repeatable with the same stimulus.

Terri is dead. Time to fight on and make sure she is vindicated and that the same horror doesn't happen to other innocent victims.

I mean no disrespect to the moderators or FR (I mean that truly)...but Terri was horribly murdered...is there any reason the people here who are so hateful towards her shouldn't be asked to tone down the rhetoric? If this same horror had happened to someone notable or to our President, FR wouldn't allow it. Why is this allowed? In the name of freedom of speech? In which case, why are DU'ers zotted so quickly when they use their right of free speech to espouse anti-conservative values? Last time I checked, murdering an innocent handicapped woman was not a conservative value.

You didn't answer me - did YOU see the videos. If she reacts in any way, she IS NOT PVS. PVS (persistent vegatative state) means there is NO reaction whatsoever. BUT, you HAVE to see the Lazy Eye video - you'll be changing your mind about her condition.

I don't have the link - it's the "conversation with Terri" - does any freeper have that link?? Thanks.
