Andrea Mitchell, reporting the story, clearly wasn't buying the White House line that Carter politely asked himself to be removed from the invitation list when he learned that space was very limited. If this wasn't true, Carter would say something. He's not shy.
Mitchell acknowledged that, after all, the Vatican is a state, and as the chief diplomatic official it was logical for Condi to attend. Nevertheless, Andrea opined that Rice should have ceded her seat to Mr. Peanut.
Carter is an EX-President. Condi is the CURRENT Secretary of State. 'Nuff said.

They must be desperate if this is all they can come up with to bash Dubya and Catholics. Anybody with a brain in this country knows what Mr. Peanut is all about: blame Republicans and Israel for all the ills of the world.
Why in the world should we send America's leading apologist for Islamo-fascism to the funeral of one of the world's greatest defenders of freedom? I don't hear Katie and Andrea demanding to know why Gerry Ford or Nancy Reagan aren't going.
Maybe they would be placated if Dubya took Michael Schiavo or Patsy Ireland. /sarcasm

MSM NBC scum! Also, Jimmy Carter has had nothing but contempt for our president since his election in 00', and his criticism of the successful liberation of Iraq has been way over the top. Let Jimmy and Roslynn sit in Plains, Ga. and shuck peanuts.

I remember Jimmy Carter. He's the turd that took our (82ND) berets away. I also remember spending the night sleeping next to a gas pump on my way home on leave. Lucky I had out of state tags, so I could get gas.
IMO, Carter sucks!

Andrea surmised this was all pay-back for Carter's harsh criticism of the Iraq war, which he called a "quagmire," predicting the failure of the January elections.

I remember living in NYC when John Paul became the Pope. We were in a children's hospital visiting the son of one of our church members. In a bed next to him was this horribly deformed boy of about 17 who was perhaps 30" in length, if his legs could have been straightened out. The pastor asked him, "Michael, are you going to go see the pope?" Michael said that he wasn't. "Because you're not Catholic?" the pastor asked. "No," Michael said. "Because I'm not Polish."

Asked Katie "under the circumstances, wouldn't the right thing have been for Condi Rice to step aside and give Carter her place?" Yep back of the bus Condi. You getting a bit uppity woman!

Jimmah had not one, but TWO chances to attend a Papal funeral. The FIRST time he sent his wife, and the SECOND time he sent his MOTHER.
Who would Bucky designate to go in he stead THIS time?
Amy? Chip? Billy?
To: governsleastgovernsbest
I don't get the big hubbub and wonder why no talking head is pointing out that TWO popes died while Jimmy was President and he didn't attend either funeral.

Tongues-a-clucking LOL, I can almost hear them.
If Carter wanted to see the Pope, then he'd be on his way to Rome right now. He's a former president of the United States--nobody's going to "disinvite" him. It's Carter's choice if he wants to attend or not.

There was a time when I thought of Carter as a well-meaning
man who,as President, was simply over his head. However,in the last few years I've developed a contempt for him that
rivals the contempt I have for Die Schlickfrau and Lord
Teddy of Chappaquiddick
To: governsleastgovernsbest
Why is President Bush to blame? I didn't realize the only way one could attend the funeral services and pay one's respect is by getting an invitation from the President of the US.
Didn't the cardinals invite him? (Oh..they didn't?)
Perhaps the faithful did? (No?)
Well can't he go on his own? (Oh he just wants to cry about it- not really go.)
To: governsleastgovernsbest
And thanks for the ping, as usual, GLGB.
