VANITY NOTICE: I've just learned that I am an "EXTREMIST!" WOO HOO!!

Nicest compliment I've received in a long time.

"Extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice; moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue."

Y'all might want to be careful who you hang out with. If you are pro-God, pro-life, pro-family, pro-constitution, pro-Liberty, pro-America and post to FreeRepublic.com, you risk being labeled as an "extremist."

That puts you in the company of extremist folks like George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, Ben Franklin, & Co.

As extremists, "We must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately."

Speaking of quotes from our extremist forefathers, someone sent me these this morning:

George Washington - "..And let us indulge with caution the supposition that morality can be maintained without religion... Reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail to the exclusion of religious principle."

John Adams - "Our constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other."

James Madison - "We've staked the whole future of American civilization not on the power of government, far from it. We have staked the future ...upon the capacity of each and all of us to govern ourselves, to control ourselves, to sustain ourselves according to the Ten Commandments of God. The future and success of America is not in this Constitution, but in the laws of God upon which this Constitution is founded."

Noah Webster - "No truth is more evident to any mind than that the Christian religion must be the basis of any government intended to secure the rights and privileges of a free people."

Sure. The court ended up making the final determination in this case. Would you have felt better about this if Michael Schiavi had had the final say and that no judge had ever been involved?

I can't see our Nation's founding fathers allowing a person like Terri Shiavo to linger until old age takes her. I could see them quote the last verse of the 23rd Psalm as they pull the plug.

Anyway, we'll get to see how much support extremism gets at the march on Thursday. Good luck.

I'm just pointing out the fact that a dispute involving two non-governmental litigants in state court is, by definition, a state civil matter.

I'm neither arguing with the conclusion in the narrow sense, nor was I one of those who suggested that flying squads of thugs should be engaged to wisk Terri out of the nursing home. I do believe that the law needs to take into account the importance of continued breathing in these "civil matters". What you haven't told us here is which way you lean on the subject of continued life for the helpless.

In this case, however, Michael Schiavo has not been allowed to make a decision to disconnect life-support. The Schindlers have not been allowed to make a decision to maintain life-support. Each party in this case, absent their disagreement, might have been a suitable surrogate decision-maker for Theresa. Because Michael Schiavo and the Schindlers could not agree on the proper decision and the inheritance issue created the appearance of conflict, Michael Schiavo, as the guardian of Theresa, invoked the trial court's jurisdiction to allow the trial court to serve as the surrogate decision-maker.

The probate judge, as a state actor, ordered the removal of her feeding tube.

He also ordered that no water or food pass her lips. I can supply that order if you'd like. By issuing that order it could be argued that the state has become an accessory to euthanasia which is against Florida Law.

Do you want probate judges having these powers?

Mark Twain said it best - "The reports of my death were highly exaggerated." FR is 50X more resilient any of the whiners can understand. And no, it won't won't fold because a few members, with overinflated views of their importance, write OPUS's and depart.

What you haven't told us here is which way you lean on the subject of continued life for the helpless

Depends on what you mean by "helpless."

On one extreme, there is the paraplegic or quadraplegic person whose injuries are solely physical. If I find myself near someone advocating that such people be killed, I'd be liable to pop them one in the nose.

On the other extreme is the person who is completely braindead and cannot continue to even breathe on their own. In that case, pulling the plug is the right thing to do.

TS was very, very close to the second case. Maybe she wasn't completely brain dead in that she retained some autonomic brain functions. However, for all intents and purposes, TS died 15 years ago. What happened this last week was simply her physical shell catching up to that fact.

Well, I know there will be at least 100 of us there. One to visit each Senator. If we get 200 that'd be better yet.
