Daylight-Saving Time Returns This Weekend (Spring Forward -- set clocks ahead by 1 hr tonight)
Yahoo News ^ | April 2, 2005 | AP

WASHINGTON - Break out the croquet set and set up the barbecue. Daylight-saving time was making its return this weekend.

That meant pushing the clocks ahead — spring forward — to gain an hour of light in the evening for warm summer recreation. The official change was at 2 a.m. Sunday, local time.

It's also a good time to replace batteries in smoke alarms, safety advocates urge.

Daylight-saving time ends the last Sunday in October.

Some parts of the country don't observe daylight-saving time. These include Arizona, Hawaii, the part of Indiana in the Eastern time zone, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and American Samoa.

This has nothing to do with daylight savings time, but I thought it was a pretty impressive picture.

I'm waiting for those days. Part of me says "you will be begging them to get up". The other part says, "you will get to be a lazy bum yourself and sleep in!". LOL....I know that being a mom I will NEVER get to sleep in again until the kids are out of the house.

3. Rotate all mattresses.
4. Change the oven filter.
5. Check the magnesium rod in the water heater.
6. Check the air pressure in your spare tire.
7. Rotate all bottles of wine.
8. Backflush the pool.
9. Relace your tennis shoes.
10. Replace the reflective tape on your bicycle helmet.
11. Donate to an animal shelter.
12. Donate to a homeless shelter.
13. Let in the Jehovah's Witnesses and the Mormons. Offer them a cup of coffee.

Geez ya think I'd know after 45yrs but no.

So Thank You.

I was looking at a clock in the store just like the one I bought a year ago.

It says it sets itself...hmmm maybe that is why I got the actual time so screwed up last time we fell back.

I am going to wait and see if mine re sets.

Hey, it's bad enought to get up an hour earlier -- who wants to add to the discomfort by adding all these additional tasks!

Can't I just "fall back" instead? I need the sleep.

Remember to reset your car clocks and to check your "Atomic Clocks" to make sure they have auto-changed in the next few days. Otherwise, you"ll have to change them yourselves.

If I make the list long enough there is no way I can finish them all so I might as well just have a beer and watch NASCAR!

One of my favorite sucker bets:

Bet somebody that they can't name the longest day of the year. Those preconditioned by our public schools will say "June 21st". I'll say "no, the longest day of the year is the last Sunday in October because it is the only day that is 25 hours long."

I've got a clock that does it automatically. It has for the last three years, but I still get up just to make sure that it did so. I keep worrying that one day it will "forget" to do it.

Outside the US, the transitions to and from DST happen at various times. Europe went to DST the last Sunday of March--at 1:00 am UTC, regardless of local time. In the Southern Hemisphere, they transition from DST to standard time in March or April, and then transtion from standard time back to DST in September or October (the reverse of what happens in the US.) And there are many places that are always on standard time--such as all of Mainland China.
