The Pope and the President did not always agree on every issue (death penalty comes to mind), so it was classy of the President to so honor the Pope. Bravo to him.

As to why other Presidents didn't attend papal funerals -- well, probably a lot of reasons. Probably worried about offending the separation of church and state crowd. Im' thinking it's more likely that none of Pope John Paul II's predecessors had such an impact. I can remember when popes often just stayed in their little "ivory tower" in Rome and made all these proclamations without having a clue as to the needs of the peope. This Pope reached out to everyone of all faiths (or no faith) all over the world.

Neither one of the Clinton's should receive Holy Communion, or I will SCREAM! Blasphemous action.

When John Paul I died in 1978-9, Jimmah, classless, Carter sent his mother Miss Lillian.....who wisely stated one time "I should'a stayed a Virgin."

I am not even a Catholic and I am not only angry that he is going, but EMBARRASSED!!!

How could an adulter, liar place himself in such a position at such a "holy" time? Don't bother, I know the answer,--

NO CLASS!!!

Don't know if this is even newsworthy, but I just heard on the radio that Prince Charles and Camilla have stated that the will NOT change their wedding plans even if the Pope is buried on Friday---

Is this important in the whole scheme of things, anyway? /s

Unfortunately, the Clintoons have decided to invite themselves to the funeral---some good campaign footage for Hillbilly doncha know?

How could we expect anything else from them?

I just saw on Fox News that President Bush has NOT said he is going to the funeral, because he hasn't gotten an official invitation yet--diplomatic protocol, ya know.

Question--what if an "official" invitation does NOT come for Bill Clinton---think he will go anyway? and would we ever know if he actually got one or not?

Of course they would invite themselves. Bill will do anything to get his mug in front of a camera -- especially when so many heads-of-state and dignitaries will be there.

LOL Well, actually, at least one of her offspring turned out all right. Wasn't Ruth an evangelist?

Maybe it was an exorcism. But whatever it was, it obviously didn't work. :)

A Polish soldier A 19-year-old Karol
Wojtyla, later Pope John Paul II (centre),
is seen holding a rifle while performing
'present arms' in this July 1939 photo. Two
months before the outbreak of the second
world war, he attended a military training
camp in western Ukraine, then eastern
Poland.
