Good riddance! Now if they would only do the same with the hate whitey black studies professors, the hate men womyn's studies professors and the hate Bush and capitalism professors of all subjects, it'll be a good start!

Of course, there wouldn't be many left!

"Yes, it is."

100 million dead innocent people does not demonstrate intent?

Thankyou for the simplistic lesson in rudimentary logic

You certainly seem to need one...

If you can find where I said nazism was ok

Who're you trying to kid? Peddle that scurrying, backwash nonsense to someone else...your posts speak for themselves. As do mine.

As much as I may despise both communism and fascism, I don't believe in dismissing a man without good cause. You may now return to calling me a nazi

We all must wear our own shoes in this life; unfortunately, we often find that they fit...as the case seems to be here, in some sense and to some degree.

Your abject whining seems to rise to the level of special pleading; and does little but reinforce the first premise of my opinion of you. As I suspected, you'll only squeal foul when confronted...instead of taking the care to either explain or clarify.

If this professor was a member of the Socialist Workers Party, or an anarchist, would he still be dismissed?

Embittered by the state of his homeland after the war, in May 1866, Forrest became "Grand Wizard" of the Ku Klux Klan, an organization of Confederate veterans. Because of Forrest's prominence, the organization grew rapidly under his leadership. In addition to aiding Confederate widows and orphans of the war, many members of the new group began to use force to oppose the extension of voting rights to blacks, and to resist Reconstruction-introduced measures for the ending of segregation. In 1869, Forrest, disagreeing with its increasingly violent tactics, ordered the Klan to disband. However, many of its groups in other parts of the country ignored the order and continued to function.

Answers.com

The Memphis Daily Avalanche reported this event on July 6, 1875.

"Nathan Bedford Forrest was invited to speak by the Jubilee of Pole Bearers, a political and social organization in the post-war era comprised of Black Southerners. Miss Lou Lewis was introduced to General Forrest then presented him with a bouquet of flowers and said: 'Mr. Forrest - allow me to present you this bouquet as a token, of reconciliation, an offering of peace and good will.'

"General Forrest received the flower with a bow, and replied: 'Miss Lewis, ladies and gentlemen - I accept these flowers as a token of reconciliation between the white and colored races of the South. I accept them more particularly, since they come from a lady, for if there is any one on God’s great earth who loves the ladies, it is myself. This is a proud day for me. Having occupied the position I have for thirteen years, and being misunderstood by the colored race, I take this occasion to say that I am your friend. I am here as the representative of the Southern people - one that has been more maligned than any other. I assure you that every man who was in the Confederate army is your friend. We were born on same soil, breathe the same air, live in the same land, and why should we not be brothers and sisters.

When the war broke out I believed it to be my duty to fight for my country, and I did so. I came here with the jeers and sneers of a few white people, who did not think it right. I think it is right, and will do all I can to bring about harmony, peace and unity. I want to elevate every man, and to see you take your places in your shops, stores and but I want you to do as I do - go to the polls and select the best men to vote for. I feel that you are free men, I am a free man, and we can do as we please. I came here as a friend and whenever I can serve any of you I will do so. We have one Union, one flag, one country; therefore, let us stand together. Although we differ in color, we should not differ in sentiment. Many things have been said in regard to myself, and many reports circulated, which may perhaps be believed by some of you, but there are many around me who can contradict them. I have been many times in the heat of battle - oftener, perhaps, than any within the sound of my voice. Men have come to me to ask for quarter, both black and white, and I have shielded them. Do your duty as citizens, and if any are oppressed, I will be your friend. I thank you for the flowers, and assure you that I am with you in heart and hand." ---

Do not slur the memory of a great soldier and patriot for his country. People can and do change

As for the article above, there is no other recourse for this professor but to fire him. His views should disgust any conservative and they should join in the call for getting rid of him

He also discussed attending a recent "gathering" of the White Aryan Race Nation in South Carolina, commenting that he had been gratified by the turnout.

That really disturbs me, especially in my neighboring state. Liberals may be a problem down here, but to me this is more of a problem that needs to be dealt with immediately. I have never understood how these idiots could maintain the level of hate they espouse

With this prof having no tenure, I wonder if a lawsuit is in the offering.

Free speech as the defense?

I have seen it happen.

In my opinion being a bigot is no worse than being any of the several varieties of socialist. National Socialists (Nazi's), Communists, World socialists, Maoists, and trotskyites, or any other type should not be allowed to teach in American Universities.

That was exactly my point...especially when you asked, "If this professor was a member of the Socialist Workers Party, or an anarchist, would he still be dismissed?" The fact is, this professor does follow in those same ideological footsteps, but because "Nazi" and "Hitler" were part of this equation, the Left ignorantly...and intentionally, makes him out to be a rightwinger when this is not the case.
The fact that someone is a racist and may hate black people doesn't make him a rightwinger, either...since it is the Democrat Party who thinks black people couldn't make it on their own without help from them. While their racism may not be as blatant, it is no different, in that they think they are clearly superior to black people...who need to be helped through life. For decades the Left has lied about what Hitler and Nazism stood for.

""National Socialists (Nazi's), Communists, World socialists, Maoists, and trotskyites, or any other type should not be allowed to teach in American Universities.""

Ward Churchill was a bigot. And he brought his bigoted and maladjusted point of view into the classroom and shot down anyone who disagreed with him.

And he should have been fired.

The problem was his faculty took the defense that he had to have academic freedom. They felt they were protecting academic freedom. But academic freedom DOES NOT mean a professor has a right to bring hate speech into the classroom. If a professor was a member of the KKK and wanted to teach White Supremacy, he should be fired. Hate is not academic Freedom.

While this professor is a horrible racist bigot, he was able to keep his views out of the classroom. And someone made the point that basically this could open up the floodgates. What if a professor says something anti Islam or something that we here at FR happen to agree with? What if a professor is fired for being a contributer to Free Republic?
If he did it on his free time and was able to teach the course and separate his professional and personal life, well....
While what the professor said is wrong, and I agree with you that all those people you mentioned should not be allowed to teach, I just think there is too many "What ifs" that could be asked. I suppose I'm afraid of a double standard slapping people like us back in the face.

But, I would not come to this professors defense self righteously.

The Civil War didn't become so, over petty differences.

An ancestral relative (uncle, cousin) was a young man named Elijah Parish Lovejoy.

He cme from Maine, to Alton, Illinois. He was a preacher, and news publisher.

In about 1837 he was murdered, over his persistence in publishing his paper. He was 35 years old.

He is recognized for giving his life, for freedom of speech, and opposing slavery. He's particularly respected by black historians, and the late Sen. Simon of Illinois wrote a book about this man.

Another tiny historic factoid is the Mormons. Among the things their contemporaries didn't like was their anti-slavery belief.

But the posted article says:
"...an audio-enhanced website where he spoke out against Jews and blacks, including FDU basketball players."

Nazis are compelled toward revisionism--most of them to revise very incrementally while hiding their true nature (which practice of hiding exposes another part of their true nature). But it appears that the professor would be derided by his IHR buddies as a "bull in a china shop."

Then Bonaparte wrote:
"You may now return to calling me a nazi."

See what I wrote above about "revisionism."

Nazis massacre other ethnic groups and try to wipe out the religions that they advertise against, much like their ally in Nazism, the Islamists.

Nazis and their predecessors use the same old advertising, though--slippery and vague, at first, but redundant. So they only serve as targets in a noticeable range exercise once each several centuries.

Communists murder their own, for the most part (see Stalin).

If you see communists teaching in universities, join one of our ongoing campaigns to have them fired. But don't participate in an obvious effort to keep their Nazi socialist friends in teaching jobs, unless you want to wear the reputation.

You wrote: "Do not slur the memory of a great soldier and patriot for his country. People can and do change."

I'll slur killers of unarmed prisoners all day long if the mood strikes me, thanks. I'm pleased as punch ole' Nathan eventually saw the error of his ways, but the dead of Fort Pillow cry out for justice, and justice wasn't theirs. Your hero should've joined Wirz, the commandant of Andersonville, with a noose around his neck and his feet dancing in the air. Forrest has no right to the honor you and your fellow admirers bestow upon him. While he may have been a 'Great soldier and patriot to his country', so was Adolf Hitler, the good professor's idol. Neither patriotism nor military genius are a valid justification of war crimes.

And he asked us to write a journal as if we were in the shoes of a German soldier during the Holocaust, asking us how we would react.

Funny, this happens every day in schools across the nation
only it's transgender this and racial that, a liberal technique useful in "guiding" young skulls full of mush.

Almost 25 percent of the 12,123 Confederate soldiers who entered the 40-acre prisoner of war camp at Elmira, NY, died. This death rate was more than double the average death rate in other Northern prison camps, and only 2 percent less than the death rate at the infamous Southern prison at Andersonville, GA. The deaths at Elmira were caused by diseases brought on by terrible living conditions and starvation, conditions deliberately caused by the vindictive U.S. commissary-general of prisoners, Col. William Hoffman. The conditions were inexcusable; the North had more than enough food and materials for its armies, population, and prisoners.

They had the food, the materials, the supplies, were not under a blockade, and still chose to starve brave soldiers. Who was the war criminal again?

A post-war U. S. Congressional investigating committee later found that the Fort Pillow disaster was largely due to incompetent Union command, and Forrest was cleared of all charges of misconduct. Among other issues, the surrender was conducted improperly so as to mislead opposing forces as to intent, resulting in a large number of unnecessary casualties.

The military advisor of the committee, General William T. Sherman, himself a brutal battlefield commander, strongly concurred with the committee's findings. Sherman had once offered a reward for Forrest during the war, referring to him in a conversation with General Grant as "that devil Forrest," and said that he would sacrifice ten-thousand troops, if necessary, to get him. That statement had nothing to do with Fort Pillow. It spoke to General Forrest's ability as a battlefield commander, feared and respected even by his enemies.

As an interesting footnote, in 1998, two U. S. Army JAG officers (lawyers) released an analysis they did of General Sherman's infamous march through Georgia, specifically the part from Atlanta to Savannah. They found that under current military rules of engagement, Sherman committed several acts that would qualify as war crimes, which today, would cause criminal charges to be filed against him. To cite just one example, near Savannah, after one of his officers stepped on a torpedo (land mine) that blew off the man's leg, Sherman forced Confederate prisoners to walk in front of Union troops and act as human mine sweepers.

Will be more than happy to provide the Congressional investigation clearing General Forrest of any wrongdoing if you would like. Of course facts tend to dispel your myths so not sure you would want to see it

So no one is going to accept the university's explanation that he was absent without authorisation (supported by one student), or what, to me, the article seems to imply about the emergence of his Nazi affiliations - that they were discovered because he went public by broadcasting on the Nazi website?
