In my opinion being a bigot is no worse than being any of the several varieties of socialist. National Socialists (Nazi's), Communists, World socialists, Maoists, and trotskyites, or any other type should not be allowed to teach in American Universities.

Ward Churchill was a bigot. And he brought his bigoted and maladjusted point of view into the classroom and shot down anyone who disagreed with him.

And he should have been fired.

The problem was his faculty took the defense that he had to have academic freedom. They felt they were protecting academic freedom. But academic freedom DOES NOT mean a professor has a right to bring hate speech into the classroom. If a professor was a member of the KKK and wanted to teach White Supremacy, he should be fired. Hate is not academic Freedom.

While this professor is a horrible racist bigot, he was able to keep his views out of the classroom. And someone made the point that basically this could open up the floodgates. What if a professor says something anti Islam or something that we here at FR happen to agree with? What if a professor is fired for being a contributer to Free Republic?
If he did it on his free time and was able to teach the course and separate his professional and personal life, well....
While what the professor said is wrong, and I agree with you that all those people you mentioned should not be allowed to teach, I just think there is too many "What ifs" that could be asked. I suppose I'm afraid of a double standard slapping people like us back in the face.

But, I would not come to this professors defense self righteously.

You have just advocating firing half of the professors of the Ivy League universities. :-)

Trotskyites breed like rabbits in those places.

World socialism is the predominant ideology of academia. For most it is their life's mission! :-(
