If you are familiar with it, most any distance inside the average home would result in a "hit." I have no trouble at 25 meters. However, it's after the bullet arrives that "underpowered" comes in to play. I'd suggest Corbon (if you can find it-discontinued) or other suitable HP type of ammo. FMJ fine for target shooting.
Makarov is an excellant "glove box gun." Dependable. Easy to clean. Accurate-in most cases. I prefer something larger for home defense, but then I live in rural area. Mileage will vary...

In the chin and out the nose/mouth area? Wouldn't that have to be fired with the gun under the chin and the head looking strait up? It wasn't straight up vertically, but from the side under the jaw, through the tongue, and out from the opposite side of the nose/upper lip.

Two guys holding and 'assisting' you as you squirm around. The shot goes off but the head is moving, bullet goes out the front, not very "realistic" looking and the guy is still alive. Ok, but he's not moving much now, just moaning, quick put it to the temple.
The man had enough dirt to bury every politician, to include all of Yushchenko's people, deep deep under. He should have taken off or had other "insurance".

Death due to one bullet through the Brain Pan is suicide.
Two bullets is very, very sloppy, amateurish murder!
Jack.

I can't find the Corbon anymore.
Hornady still makes a JHP in 9x18, which is what I use in my Mak.
As for underpowered... Well I'd definately perfer to have my .45 Cal Glock G30 on hand than my Mak.
However, for an accurate, reliable gun on a budget, a Mak is a nice choice in my opinion.
I'll agree that it's somewhat marginal with about 8 inches of penetration in balistic geletin. However if you were to give me a budget of $300 I'd suggest a Bulgarian Mak and a case of ammo to practice with.

Yes. I paid approx.$74 for my Mak. "Unissued." Bulgarian. I checked with Corbon several months ago. They no longer make ammo 9X18MM. I still have several boxes of it left. Hornady a good choice as well.
The Mak is sort of the AK of the pistol world IMO. It does what it does-all day long.
