Ukraine's security service chief has said the death of former Interior Minister Yuri Kravchenko last month was almost certainly suicide.
"There is no other version but suicide," Oleksander Turchynov said, citing forensic and ballistics tests.
Kravchenko was found dead with two gunshot wounds to the head on 4 March in his country house outside Kiev.
He was due to testify later that day about the high-profile murder of journalist Georgiy Gongadze in 2000.
Mr Turchynov said among possible reasons of Kravchenko's apparent suicide was the "burden (of the Gongadze case) he hauled for the past four years".
Kravchenko left a suicide note blaming former President Leonid Kuchma for Gongadze's death, Ukraine's investigators say.
They say in the note he described himself as "a victim of the intrigues of Kuchma and his entourage".

"Is there some reflex of the brain stem that insures you pull the trigger the second time?"
Sure there is, however the reflex is in the brain of the person holding the gun, whom was not the victim.
HINT: the best way is to put the gun up to your eye socket and go from one side to the other... the over pressure going into the eye socket instead of off the side of your head will do as much or more than the bullet.
Well, maybe he had a very quick trigger finger...;)
Now with this being the "official" Yushchenko government story, I wonder what they are gaining from this man being dead? Could it be that thanks to his position he had dirt on Yushchenko while the man was Prime Minister or on Tymoshenko and how she made $11 billion in 5 years running the government's gas sector? Hmmmm.
The first bullet went from below the lower jaw and through the front of his mouth (either he was a very determined man to do himself after all that pain and the skin burning from the gasses or he was struggling and his assassins couldn't get the angel right) the second was to the temple.
The man had dirt on everybody, to include Yushchenko during his Prime Minister days and Tymoshenko (the present Prime Minister) on how she made $11 billion in 5 years as head of the gas sector for the government (that's a $2 million/day salary for a civil servant...man!).
First one was under the jaw and went out the front teeth (bad angel, doesn't look authentic) the second was to the temple.

Yeah, our justice system, ain't it something to be proud off. Now a days, they would have just taken him and starved him humanely.
Considering the pain and confusion of the first shot, not to mention the burned and blistered skin from exhaust gasses, he was a real trooper to put the next bullet in the brain case. Of course with a bad angle it just doesn't look right.
His "sponsor" didn't have any tall buildings in the neighborhood to help him off, in the short time they had. Now they could have run him over with an SUV....
There was a case here last year where two real estate agents lived together, and the guy shot the female to death and his condition was "critical, due to several self-inflicted gunshot wounds"....I never could find anything more, regarding details about that.
In the end, he survived and is in the slammer awaiting trial.
First bullet under the chin, second in the temple.
Now, that's a "Keeper Graphic" !
Arkancide: My thoughts exactly!
Agreed. I just read of one a couple dozen posts ago. (Doesn't mean any were legit though...)
In the chin and out the nose/mouth area?
Wouldn't that have to be fired with the gun under the chin and the head looking strait up?
Such a shot could easily be nonfatal, but it basically amounts to attempting suicide and missing anything vital, then having to follow up with a second shot to do it right.
As strange as that sounds, I can't really come up with a better explaination of how you'd have a bullet enter the chin and exit the nose mouth.
Maybe it would be possible if there were a shooter close behind him and he struggled with him... Seems like a strange entrance and exit angle.
Few weapons are underpowered with proper shot-placement. But 9X18MM is considered by most, to be underpowered.
