The difference between Terri and your hypothetical patient is the hypothetical patient "has a living will that says _____________".

What part of "err on the side of life" is so hard for you people to comprehend? Terr's wishes were not clear. The circumstances in which her wishes were made "known" are clearly suspect.

If the hypothetical patient's chances are 1/10, yes, you leave them on the respirator and take a "wait and see" approach. 1/100 chance? A 1/1000 chance? Well, I guess that depends on who is giving the statistical odds of recovery doesn't it? If the consensus reached by all physicians consulted is that the hope of recovery is non-existant or very slim, you would remove the respirator. In Terri's case there were 17 certified physicians in good standing who gave sworn affadavits stating that Terri may have benefitted from new evaluations and therapeutic technologies that can significantly impact brain damaged and disabled persons. Many of them have stated that there is strong likelihood that Terri was in a minimally conscious state.

You say the court (Greer) could not have been wrong? I say all of these doctors could not have been wrong.

Matthew's self-inflated ego blinds him to his childish
ways. As he's always expressing his views and rarely
analyzing information intelligently, I've never considered
him very smart.

The Italian way to pronounce Schiavo would be "ski-avo", with a hard c. You would have to drop the "h" to pronounce it the way that the Congressmen were pronouncing it.

I've heard it pronounced at least 3 different ways. The Italian way for my last name is with a Sicilian accent. But straight up American is fine by me.

I guess that's the problem with Italian. The dialects of the regions are so different that it's almost like speaking another language altogether. But I was thinking about that as well when Chris Matthews was criticizing the Congressmen. I just wasn't entirely sure that Schiavo was an Italian name.

I was watching Greta's show last night as she had Matthew Schiavo's brother on bemoaning the lack of civility in this case. As he gets through playing the uncivil comments left on his answering maching, the first thing out of his mouth was something like..."this was probably some guy from Texas sitting on his front porch, chewing tabacco, next to his sister....I mean wife...blah, blah, blah."

It's amazing these people can't see the hypocrisy in everything they say. He could've took the high-road...yet, he acted as uncivilized as those he was criticizing.

Really?! What a jerk! As someone whose real name is extremely difficult to pronounce, I certainly can understand people mispronouncing "Schiavo." Let's all stick with her maiden name!

They look like broken people. A simple, ordinary family struggling with powerlessness and injustice. Loving a daughter who has been grossly mistreated and now being killed; the law unwilling to help and no one else to turn to but God. May those who perpetrated this crime against Terri and her family learn the same sorrow and helplessness!

Matthews needs to join Dan Rather out to pasture.

With those disgusting remarks, Matthews should join others under six feet of dirt.

On some level the parents are enjoying the attention. They're going to make money out of this as well.

I'm not agreeing with Chris Matthews, but this whole episode is not nearly as simple as either side wants to make it.

But it is simple and that is what makes it all the more crazy.

It is always amazing that Chris talks about Philly. He hasn't lived here for 35 years. In Philly, we think that Terri's father has suffered enough. If you think that Philly is important, than come back..... Oh, by the way, Chris ..we don't need you.
